Medium SUVs.

went and looked at the Kuga and Tig. (all comments imo) Both very good looking externally. Inside the Kuga has a bigger boot which is important to me. However I though the Kugs front panel and display was a bit cluttered and tacky where as the Tig was neater, more sophisticated. I did not like the Kugs hand-break.

My local VW has a specials on the Tigs so very competitivally priced if you want a petrol. Overall the Kuga offers more features and value for money.

Tough choice. Probably just comes down to a matter of personnel choice.

Have you checked out the CR-V 2,0 FWD for space and full sized spare?

Just some feedback on this, especially for Dryad.

I signed an OTP on the 4.2 auto Trailblazer. Although quite a bit bigger then what we were discussing on this thread , after much reading and testing I just thought it was a better package for what I wanted. For most people it would be between this and the Fortuner and I was happy it had the edge. However it was not much more then a top specked Kuga, Sportage, ix35.....

If anyone is interested I will post some feedback after I had it for a few weeks.

Had a look at a few of these vehicles this week. The Kuga is a nice looking car, as is the Sportage, but we're leaning towards the Captiva for the large cargo area and the availability of those two extra seats back there.

I know there are a few threads on this but how hard is it to choose in this category!!! To name a few there's the new
Ford Kuga, Kia Sportage, VW Tiguan, New Rav 4, Honda CRV.... All have something in the region of R300K to R380K and all seem to have quite a good offering making it very hard to choose! Ive done quite a bit of home work and just cant make up my mind!

Anyone else looking at buying and have some input?

My 2 cents
Ford Kuga - impressive but passed by on perceived quality and depreciation
Kia Sportage - improving but it didn't drive as nicely as the CRV in my experience
VW Tiguan - strong contender, found the boot and rear seats to be small
New Rav 4 - didn't consider based on looks, price and theft risk
Honda CRV - I bought this one - 2.4 manual - I live on the reef and find it to be light on torque - I would avoid the 2.0 and the auto tranny - drives nicely and fits in most parking spots

This is something I wondered about, if you get a car where the seats are on the edge of the rear side (there's no boot). What happens when a car rear ends you? Passengers in those back seats mince-meat?

Thank you :)

It is really funny, was looking at a trailblazer yesterday in the parking lot thinking might want to go and test drive it! If you would not mind giving some feedback later on, I would really appreciate it!!! :p

bwana, I test drove the Captiva, but did not really enjoy driving the car, it was not a bad car, just not fun. It did however have space and appeared popular under buyers for those extra seats.

I drove in a Trailblazer (as a passenger). Apparently the engine is VERY good but the interior is like fake breasts - nice to look at but the moment you touch it you realise it is cheap plastic :(

agree, to a degree. A few things looked cheapish but no deal breakers for sure! Bear in mind specs are similar to a similar vehicle that could cost a couple hundred grand more if it had a different badge. Definitely on a par with a similarly priced Fortuner.

Dryad I will give you feedback. Captiva hasent received rave revies based on my research although I thought it looked good. The TB is getting awesome feedback from most driving mags. A vehicle like the Captiva certainly would meet my needs but the TB just has more "presence" so maybe a luxury but worth it and not that much difference in price.

Thanks Jinx! Hope you have miles of safe driving :)

Agree the Captiva has no presence, it felt rather bland to me. I feel that if you can afford the "luxury" then why not, it is your money ;)

Same here - I'm looking at used vehicles and right now its a toss-up between the Sportage and the Captiva. I'd prefer the bigger vehicle but my missus is trying to push me towards the Sportage.

my fav at the moment based on overall package.... Used to be Kia Sportage. Your reasons?

Anyone tested one yet? Im testing the 2l on Wedneday.

I have got a few friends who own the 2L sportage. All say its underpowered. If the dealer is honest he will say the same.

That Mahindra... what do they call it... XUV 500 or something, has the tackiest interior I've ever seen. It is comically horrible.

Jah, but it'll probably run on elephant dung if you run out of diesel ;)

From what I've been told those Scorpio's are pretty tough vehicles and pretty much hassle free, designed for rough Indian rural conditions.
