Hi folks,

Firstly, apologies if this has been asked, but I did use the site's search as well as Google and found nothing specific to the Mega 200VWR router (one of the routers that one gets with the self install option).

I did find this thread though:
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=76826
where in post number 4, 2C Telecoms mentions how to do it on a Mega 100WR2. I however got stuck on step 3) Select "enable" under the "shared" option, since my router does not have this.

I tried creating another PPPoE connection by going to Configuration > WAN > ISP > Create, but it did not allow me to create another connection using the same VPI/VCI/port combination that my first connection was using:
webserver:VPI/VCI/port combination already in use

How would I go about doing this on the Mega 200VWR?

You obviously know why I want to do this: to route local traffic through a local only account.

I actually only need to add a couple of IP addresses to be routed through a local only account and I thought of manually adding them to the Configuration > Advanced > Static Route section. Could somebody please explain how to do this though, I have two options: route via Gateway or Interface - how do I set this up? Can this be done via the web interface, or do I need to use a program like Route Sentry?

Thanks.

200vwr Access Point

Hi Newbie, I am experiencing the same problem setting up a second ISP account.

Can the 200vwr router be set up as a wireless access point?

Now why wasn't I given this router instead of the Mega 100  !!

Looking at the specs for the Mega 200, it can support up to 8 concurrent connections.
The trick with the Mega 100 is to change the PVC settings from 'new' to 8:35 before the second connection will be accepted. Perhaps someone else with this router can give more accurate advice.

I'd stay away from routesentry. Put your connections and static routes into the router, this is the way routers should be setup! Also means that that you can use the router with any PC running any OS and not have to worry about extra setups on the PC etc.
Use the web interface to enter the static routes. You can choose either via gateway or interface, interface is probably safer as your default gateway is assigned when you connect.

Sure can! and much more... Read the manual!!

Well I got this router last week will check and see if I can be of any help. It’s a bloody expensive router so it should be able to do it.

Yes, that is exactly the problem, that I cannot get the second connection to share the PVC settings of the first connection. On the Mega 100, I assume that you do it by setting up the first connection as "shared" as 2C Telecoms mentions in the thread linked in my first post. I cannot seem to find any "shared" setting on my Mega 200 though :(

the MEGA 200 is very good but im having hassles in setting up route sentry pls help

is there any other software i could use instead of RS

Ok, I am close to giving up.

I have tried telnetting into my router and examining all of the commands. I could not find any "shared" option or anything related to sharing the PVC settings between two PPPoE connections. I tried the CLI way and the console way. Interestingly enough, I cannot find a way to get a linux prompt from the router. Logging into my router with telnet using user 'root' and password <routerpassword> does not work for me, I need to enter an actual user and the router password.

I also phoned 2C Telecoms and got told that the Mega 200 does not support creating multiple PPPoE connections via the web interface, but does via the command prompt (although they refused to tell me how to do it via the command prompt, a Billion contracting issue of some sort). They did tell me that there will be a new firmware update for the Mega 100 which will allow me to create multiple PPPoE connections and that I have the option of swapping my router out for a Mega 100.

I like the fact that this router has VOIP capabilities and even though I don't use it now, I would like to have the option of using it in the future, which is why I prefer to set this up on my Mega 200, rather than swapping it out.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I find in instances like these the best thing to do is to find out your router actually is (eg Billion xxx) and search for a forum related to Billion or the particular router. Though given that international people don't find themselves having to route traffic between local and international traffic, it raises the possibilty that you might not find a solution there.

That’s bullsh$t, how can they not tell you how to use the features that are on the router. I hope you come right.

I remember they wouldn't tell whom they sourced the Mega100WR from.

I have a mega200wvr and use route sentry without any hassles.
heres how:
log onto the router 10.0.0.2
go to configuration, then wan, then ISP, then select create.
now here u must select "PPPoE Routed with Pass-through", in the next page where it asks for the details of the ISP username/password, type in ur international account details. apply and select save config on the lower right, follow the step that follows then.

* the PPPoE Routed with Pass-through will basically allow u setting up an account on ur router whilst allowing other "dial up" connections using route sentry.

then for route sentry, search the myadsl forum for routesentry vista,(you can use this for windows XP and vista) - windows xp needs RASPPPOE installed and configured etc, vista requires some tweaking on the settings of the dial up connections u create.
This is all explained in detail on the routesentry vista forum on myadsl.

hope this helps.

Thanks for the info spikey24.

First prize for me would be for all of the routing and multiple connections to be handled by the router only, meaning that one does not need an always on PC with Route Sentry installed or having to install Route Sentry on every PC - everything happens transparently.

Since I have multiple PCs at home, I quote the Route Sentry FAQ with regards to sharing a Route Sentry connection:
Sharing your Route Sentry connection
XP's ICS (Internet Connection Sharing) won't work with more than 1 connection at a time (as used by Route Sentry), so what do you do?

* Method 1: Using a Proxy

The first and simplest option is to install a proxy server on your Route Sentry PC and then simply configure your other PCs to make use of this proxy. DDProxy is perfect for this, and best of all it's free. The downside to this method is that some applications and games won't work through a proxy.

* Method 2: Using a VPN (Virtual Private Network)
...
The first thing you need to is is install a DNS server on the PC running Route Sentry
...
Next you need to install VPN server/client software.
...
Don't get me wrong, I don't have anything against Route Sentry - I was just looking for a more transparent solution.

About the more transparent solution: I managed to speak to somebody who seemed to know a lot about the subject (he also initially suggested Route Sentry :) ), but after speaking to him he said that he may be able to help me with the router thing. I'll post if / when I find a solution.

Hi Guys, had a Mega 200 for 6 months and it works great. I change my ISP form Telkom to SAINET, setup everything and it is working BUT I get disconnected every 5-10 minutes. Is there maybe something I am doing wrong. I need to reset the modem properties because Telkom was so kind to change my router admin password (I wrote it down so I know it was correct!).

Please can anyone help suggest a possible cause and fix. Thanks

you would be better off deleting your post and starting a seperate thread. your problem is not linked to this thread save it's the same router.

Since this thread was bumped, I thought I'd post an update, since I got a PM asking if I had found a solution.

I stopped trying to configure local / international routing using the Mega 200. Instead I put it in bridged mode and went with this solution, since I also have a Linksys WRT54GL.

multiple ISP's on the Mega 200VWR

if anyone is trying to set up multiple ISP's on the Mega 200VWR here is how to do it:

PART 1. this involves the router

1. open your web browser then type click and this url http://10.0.0.2 , or type 10.0.0.2 into your address bar and press enter.

2. log in the appropriate way, default is username: admin password: admin. if you have changed it in the past when you setup the modem, then use what you have changed it to. this brings up the status page.

3. click on quick start, then in the line that says Encapsulation, change the type from PPoE to Pure Bridged LLC in the drop down menu. apply the changes at the bottom of the screen and restart the router.

what this does is change the router's internet interface, so instead of the router permanently being connected to the internet itself and the computers piggy backing on its connection, changing it to Pure Bridged LLC makes each computer have to independently connect via the router to the internet.

PART 2. this involves each pc you want to connect to the internet

1. open control panel, and open network connections, click on the task plane create new connection.
click next twice,
then choose "set up my connection manually", click next,
choose the second option "connect using a broadband connection that requires a username and password", click next,
type in an ISP name. it doesn't have to be the full name, can be short like Telkom. click next,
fill in the username and passwords like you do on your router and click next
then click finish

2. to connect to the internet, you click start, connect to, and the isp name you entered earlier. you can add this to the startup folder in your applications menu and it will pop up when you log onto your pc, and you can choose for it to auto dial automatically if you wish it to do so.

3. set this up on each pc connecting to the internet, you can set up multiple ISP's on each machine,
you can only be connected to one ISP at a time on each pc, but multiple PC's can be connected to your ISP at any time.
I run 4 ISP's on 6 machines in my home/office and this has helped tremendously

have fun trying this out! I hope this has helped. it took me a while to work it out, so benefit from my struggle
