I have spent two days trying to sort this out! My old Telkom Modem failed (for the 3rd time) and I got the new Mega105WR as a replacement.

I set up one laptop through the router and it works fine on both Wireless and Ethernet.

I tried set up my 2nd laptop .. It connects to Wireless and Ethernet, I can get Skype and LiveWire (FTP - I think) no problem .. but for love and money CANNOT get Internet Explorer and Email to connect.

I have phoned Telkom, and they cannot help. I have switched off Firewall on PC and Modem, Reset Modem, etc etc ... I borrowed another type of modem and the PC connects no problem.

I am not very knowledgeable about the IP/DNS address side of things, but feel that this Modem is blocking access of a second pc to HTTP, SMTP & POP3 .. is this possible.

Any help would be vastly appreciated. Thanks

should have no problem with setup of second laptop/workstation if working on first , check that you dont have a static ip on station that is not working - that is if you have setup DHCP on router.

thank you & further

Sorry so long to say thanks .. but the problem has still not been rectified. Another long call to Telkom (very ably assisted by some knowledgeable techs) they have decided that the problem lies with the modem - So going in for a swap - ho hum !!

just tossed out the 105wr [ POS ] , what i did experience was that any wireless connection was not being allocated dns - i had to manually insert the dns ip into the connection settings - strange because it was getting DHCP ???? once again this router is a POS.

do yourself a favour and go and get the SMC Barricade N ADSL +- R900

Well done Telkom ..

Where do they get this stuff from .. I can only imagine it is a bit like very High Tar cigarettes, dangerous out of date drugs and unsafe cars that are stockpiled around the world - send then to Africa !

Any room in your bin for my modem?

Got given a D-Link by a friend ... going great.

Thanks again:eek:

hey.. pls can someone help me.
im using a mega 105wr, and i can't connect wirelessly... after many fruitless calls to telkom, i still have nothing. Seems like "internet for Dummies" for me..

Your troubles ...

Adam,
It sounds like you have the same problem as me. See Jirm's reply above about DNS settings ... I found if you set up one computer it worked fine on both Wireless and Ethernet cable - the problem was a second computer. THe actual wireless connection was fine, and it received Skype and an FTP program I use, but nothing else. I spoke to both a Mohamed and Levaan (?) at Telkom, they were good but still could not help. Have you tried setting it up using the setup on the CD supplied?
Good luck,
Hugo

thanks hugo.
where do i get the dns settings? and where do i put them in?

Sorry Adam .. you'll have to ask someone with more knowledge than me .. I have put this modem at the back of a VERY dark cupboard and gone for one that a friend gave me which seems to be working great - All the best, Hugo

I also have a Telkom 105WR.
Like jirm mentioned the DHCP of the router does not assign DNS on wired or wireless.

You'll have to enter the manually for some reason... (Telkom sux perhaps?).
I personally use static IP so I don't really care.

The DNS server address will be the same as the router.
(i.e. if your router is 10.0.0.2 you need to set your DNS to 10.0.0.2)
