Okay, time to start looking for a memory card for my phone. I have an 8GB Micro SD somewhere, but I think I might have lost it...yeah, epic fail. So I just quickly looked at my phones memory card(the one I got with my Desire), and it seems to be a Class 2 4GB card....Now the big wonder...Would a class 10 card not perform much better? All fine and well if the card can read/write 10mb/s, but can the phone handle the fast speed? I mean, no use getting a Class 10 card if the phone can only read/write so fast to a phone?

Here is the list of all the cards available from a supplier...

Using Kingston 16GB Class 2 microSDHC High Capacity Memory Card on my N1

Well, I must say that my 4gb that came with the phone is not performing poorly...the speed of it is amazing. But with Froyo on the horizon, i will have all possible apps stored on the memory card, so anything that might give it peak performance would be good.

It's write speed that will make the biggest difference when running apps, even two MB/s should be sufficient. Personally I wouldnt fork out the extra for a class 4/6/10 unless I was going to be reading and writing large files to the card often. If you're going to put movies and other large files on your phone on a regular basis a higher class would work, otherwise class two should be fine for everything else. Now for the price of the 32GB to come down a little, so I cant upgrade straight to the biggest the Desire can handle :D

So I think I am gonna go for a class 6 16GB card...they are practically the same price as class 2 at Rectron this month...give or take R100....I copy a lot, so why not.

everyone wat size memory card does the htc desire come with on mtn?

how would i check what class memory card im buying?

Don't think you get Class 10 Micro SD. It only comes with standard SD cards i think.

On all or at least most Micro SD cards there is a number surrounded by a C that almost looks like it is gonna go all the way around. That is your class. I bought a spare 4gb card for like R50-R60 today, it is a class 6 card. Next week hopefully my 16GB...

You could be right about not getting Class 10 Micro SD Monkey101, but I am sure there will be at some stage? But yeah, give time for technology to progress.

Well i think i am going for Class 6 when i get mine.
Just seen the 720p videos that the Desire can do and it seems like the bit rate is just over 6000Kb/s, so i think having a quicker memory card would help.

Would be curious if it would yeah. But surely the 720p videos rate can't be THAT high?!

Some guy has a youtube video up. Put the video properties of the video in the description. Was something just over 6000 i think running at 21FPS
I may be wrong though. it may have been kbps cant remember

Goodness! That is pretty high! But one thing one must also keep in mind...slipped it this morning. Micro SD card writing speed and Micro SD reading speed has a huge difference. Writing speed on my class 6 4gb card is minimum 3MB/s and maximum 7MB/s, reading however is much faster...Round about 10-15MB/s, so I think a class 4 card should technically be able to cut it. Just ran SD Card Speed on my phone, and it did bad. But the reading speed was still 10MB/s.

Yeah but i think for recording the video it would be write speed. I usually just stick with Class 6. Can't go wrong with that.

Class 6 I will stick with. On my rooted Desire (Froyo) with 720p recording a 1min26second video is about 82.93MB. That averages about a MB a second, but rather a card that can handle 6 times that than one that can handle 2 times that.

Also, my memory card access and speed seems much better with Froyo than it did with 2.1.

rectron has these on back order: TS16GUSDHC6-P3 Transcend® Ultra Performance MicroSD Flash Memory 16GB - USB Port Adaptor Included - SDHC Class 6 + USB Card Reader

the available card ratings are:
Class 2: 16 Mbit/s (2 MB/s)
Class 4: 32 Mbit/s (4 MB/s)
Class 6: 48 Mbit/s (6 MB/s)
Class 10: 80 Mbit/s (10 MB/s)

I was at Rectron on Thursday, and they said they will be getting the 16GB's on Friday, but it will probably only be available today. I wanted to get one already, but considering waiting for next month now. But I am getting a class 6 no matter what. If there is improvements in HD recording on the Desire it might just take double the space (current 15 fps vs. 30 fps) So then writing speed will be key. Still will only be able to fit 266 minutes of HD video on a 16GB card as it is...

Anyone seen a class 10 advertised anywhere in this country yet?

I've just seen them on Zaps for around R1000+....

SD cards or Micro SD cards? SD cards are common in class 10...not seen Micro SD class 10 cards...doubt they even exist...anyone know?
