sorry ppl i couldnt find another memory card/storage thread so i started this :o

Makro has a Verbatim 4gb Sd HC class 6 card for R249

Is this a good buy?

reason why i am asking is coz other card brands with same specs are much more than this... so is it just a good sale price or is there a reason for it being so much cheeper than most other SD card brands. (a friend purchased a SanDisk Extreme® III SDHC 4GB for R470 at cam shop in CT)

comments please?

What kind of camera is it for? It would probably be just fine for a normal point and shoot - maybe even a dSLR too.

Yeah, if it'st just for a point and shoot cam then a normal one is okay, but I'd go with the Extreme III for a DSLR.

/kinda on topic

I want a 2-4gig memory card for my mobile.

Where can I get the cheapest Micro sd cards (2-4gig) in pretoria area?

bah sorry educate the newbie please

if the sandisk and the verbatim are both SDHC and both rated class 6 where does the difference lay?

is it quality of manufacturing, brand trust, extra hidden thingies on the sandisk thats not in the verbatim?

and again my appologies it would be for a dslr which i plan to spoil myself with in dec

What kind of dSLR? Have you checked that it takes SD and not CF as many do?

BTW - at r249 I'd buy at least one if not more. :)

Sandisk is the brand you would opt for when it comes to memory cards. Verbatim = optical media (CD & DVD). I'd definitely go with Sandisk. If you go through photography forums, you will see them referring to Sandisk memory cards. The Extreme III is also much faster than the el-cheapo R250 ones.
Get something like this -> http://www.orms.co.za/product.php?a=view&product=1368

OK - so what's actually wrong with the Verbatims - apart from them not being Sandisk (which incidentally might not be the best available either)?

Me - I think I'm buying Hoodman's next. :D

EDIT - If you're buying a Nikon then get Lexar's for top performance.

You don't hear people raving about how they bought Verbatim memory cards. Not that anything is wrong with it, but I'm sure there's a reason why most people prefer Sandisk. I don't know of anyone who uses Verbatim cards. Sandisk also outperforms Lexar whenever I check the reviews on dpreview.com. I'm sure there there may be one or two exceptions.

I've got several different brands of cards (including Sandisk and Lexar) and I've never felt the urge to rave about whatever card I'm shooting with at the time. What I will do is rant if one ever fails but after more than 50,000 shots none have.

Also TBH I've never noticed a perceptible in-camera speed difference between any of them. Out-of-camera I'm not particularly concerned about a few extra seconds one way or another.

Lol, I was not expecting any other answer ;)
I prefer to go with what people generally use. It's a safe bet.
I guess so - look how many people still use Windows . . . :D

ok seeing that we dont have some concrete facts n figures to go on...

i will buy the verbatim card i can always use it in my PnS i intend to keep or my pda.

will slot it in my friend's d450 and see what it does in contrast to the sandisk....

u can never have enough memory cards lol

Ask yourself why the genuine photography stores don't sell Verbatim memory cards. At least the ones I know of. All I see is Sandisk and Lexar.

ya that one :p

Great choice for your foray into dSLRs - save your money and spend it on glass - bodies are almost disposable these days anyway.

I haven't found any negative reviews about them yet. If I can find a CF card of theirs that's so well priced I'll snap up a couple then and there.
