Sony Vaio VGN CR25G/B Laptop.

HDD failed and I bought a new one.
In the process of re-installing everything I also upgraded to Win 7 Professional. Also dual booing with Ubuntu 9.10 - Both 64bit.

I cannot get the integrated memory card reader to work in Win 7. All other hardware is functioning 100%.

Strangely enough the reader works without hassles in Ubuntu. Did not even need to install the drivers for it. It just works from the install.

I've tried downloading and installing the Vista drivers from the Sony support website. But it keeps giving me an error that the driver is only for Vista systems. Compatibility mode doesn't do the job. Still gives the same error.

I'm not 100% sure but I think the integrated readers for the Sony laptops are Texas Instrument hardware.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Try Windows update?

The exact same thing happened with my Vaio, had to buy a new HDD unfortunately because it's an overseas drive and Sony SA doesn't want to help, they sent me to Sahara and Sahara CPT sent me to Sahara JHB and they said: "Sorry". I actually haven't tried the card reader on my Vaio, did you not get a driver installation disk with the laptop?

Finding that disc now is like Bafana winning the WC.
I have tried Windows update, It only gets drivers for the screen, parser(?), bluetooth and network adapter. Nothing for the card reader.

I've checked Device Manager too. Doesn't even show the reader in any of the categories. So there are no drivers clashing or anything.

Checked Windows Update today and there's an update to improve backwards compatibility for programs, maybe try that?

I found that extracting the driver and then going to device manager and manually installing the card reader, choosing the driver specifically and forcing it to accept, even if the driver is unsigned... But seeing as the device doesn't appear in your device manager, I am lost completely.
