I'm keen to upgrade my memory for my MBP 2010 17" to 8GB as part of my "Christmas present" to myself. I do know that Crucial and OWC is good quality that works with Mac, but where in SA can I find the Mac compatible memory?

You need to look at your system info to 1st determine the type of RAM you need,
Based on your MBP year it should most likely be DDR3 1066 Mhz, but it's best to check.
Once you have these specs, you can then buy any laptop type RAM that meets this spec. Ie nothing special is required (and it's simple to ask them to check that it will be compatible with a MBP.
Also your 2010 MBP has two slots, so you would want to buy 2 x 4Gb.
