Menlyn Park robbery in progress

Some kind of robbery is going on at Menlyn Park mall right now, about half the cops in the city have the place locked down, running around with guns and chasing civilians away. Many, many police cars all around the mall, 2 choppers circling constantly, roads blocked. Apparently a bank inside was robbed. Anyone know what's going on? Nothing in the news yet obviously.

Well most of the twits on Twitter seem to suggest the gang robbed another mall nearby first, then came here. Either Menlyn Retail or Atterbury Value Mart depending on the twit.
 
Just heard it on Etv, seems to unsuspecting cops walking on an armed robbery and had a gun stolen two suspects were captured while two seem to have run into the shopping centre
 
Shopping season has started. :(

Its retail park. I cannot believe nedbank is still there. The jewelery place and spar has closed down since the last robbery. Remember the guys tried to get away with high jacking a few uncles with guns?

Eyewitness News reported there was a robbery at the Nike shop in the Atterbury Value Mart in Pretoria.

Police patrolling the area, unaware of the situation, were reportedly robbed inside the Value Mart, eNews reported.

Police gave chase after the suspects fled in a red taxi. Two of the suspects were arrested and another two jumped out of the taxi and ran into the Menyln Park Shopping Centre.

The mall was evacuated as police searched the centre floor by floor.

My office is 100m away from Menlyn.

Definitely Menlyn Park, the big mall across Retail. Mother-in-law was inside when they stormed inside. But the missed the target ;) (Just kidding)

And that Pick-n-Pay at retail closed down because they were crap. No other reason!

Oh yeah it was a pick and pay! They had the balls to go upstairs to the bank!! :eek:

The pick and pay was always busy, a few years ago, they had a great bakery.

Miss information on twitter :o. They said they fleed into menlyn from retail. Tx :)
 
So much confusion, some reports just cannot get the names right, then again I think all the names are pretty stupid.

Menlyn Park - big retail park on corner of Atterbury/Lois)
Menlyn Retail Park - opposite Menlyn Park (Garsfontein/Lois)
Atterbury Value Mart - east on Atterbury, close to PnP Hypermarket

RE: Pick-n-Pay: They were decent for a long time but for the last year before they closed down their service and quality declined so quickly that I didn't even bother to walk the short distance there. I got in my car and drove to the Newlands Spar for lunch. Now that is a quality shop!

Ohh! I have been away for a bit.
I will remember to try that shop.
 
@ Mila: That's our work-lunch local stop as well. They have some seriously nice home-cooked style nom noms there (most days) and it doesn't break the bank, unless you're piling in the porterhouse steaks.

Have to disagree about Newlands Spar. I live in Lynnwood nearby and I found their service shocking. And what's up with their bread? Some of the breads are near the bakery and the rest on the opposite side of the store.
