My wife drives a fairly old Merc SLK and discovered that a water pipe was bust this morning, does anyone know of a reputable place east of JHB that will fix this for us at a reasonable price and perhaps service the car at the same time?

West Rand, I could help you with contact details, but not East Rand. :(

The merc agents aren't too pricey for that sort of thing, just check how many hours labour they plan to charge. You'll pay the same for the part whether they fit it or someone else does.

You don't need a service. You just need to replace your burst pipe probably and then monitor for overheating (because of blockages or burnt radiator). Try Goldwagen, or ask them for help finding a part. Sometimes these can only be found at the dealers. Google for instructions on how to service your car. It's basically oil, coolant, brake fluid, oil filter, fuel filter, air filter and these are very simple to change. The best mechanics on the East Rand are apparently in Germiston, so just take a drive and scope it out. It will help if you go with pipe in hand.

+1

Get the genuine part and if it's easily accessible you could even do the swap out yourself.

Try Hattingh Motors in Centurion. It's a private service place specialising in Mercedes (but also doing other vehicles). They are really good and not expensive.
