Whether its built here or not they always send a few of them to the factory to disassemble and then put back together.
They get driven around often. I have seen new model mercs at least a year before they were available to buy around here.

yeah I remember that about East London. Even Mercs not made in SA seem to be tested in East London. Often saw those disguised cars with the features covered.
 
Saw them test some VW Eos V6 models up in Graaff-Reinet area a few years back. Those were never available in SA. They had some signs on the cars that said they were allowed to speed. Guess VW test a lot of cars out that way too.
 
There was a story in the news about a GTI 7 I think that crashed on that strip where they do high speed testing.

Actually it would be 350 is almost half if 1000 :D
Either way the golf is not in the same class as the other two. I guess it still is/was the benchmark.
 
Saw a white one on Sunday, it sounds terrible, like a modified Focus ST, looks nice though.
 
I'm not impressed with the spoiler on the back, to be honest. I've never been a fan of that.

Yip looks cheap, Opel Corsa like.
Also not a fan of the black wheels and the badging.
Its typical AMG though, over the top aggressive body styling.
They should learn a little from BMW Motorsport and Audi, sporty, aggressive but classy.
 
The rear lights look like the 1 Series' when looking at them from the back.
 
Starting at a "mere" R555000-00...
Actually less than I expected tbh. Was thinking closer to R600k.
Still a bucketload though!

Yes, that's the price on the MB site - standard of course. My friend ordered one with the rear spoiler, 19-inch wheels and it came to a total of about 586K or so. Not bad really. Let's see if my friend gets that 6.9/7.0 litres per 100km fuel consumption that Mercedes "claim" lol

i used the car configurator as well, just to see.
The one I would get whilst being modest was pretty much 600k.

As for the 6.9l/100km. There is absolutely no chance of ever getting that. He is looking at 10

I seriously doubt it will give a 6.9. Maybe 8-9ish.
Turbos give lower fuel consumption up to a certain point, then it goes way up.
The A250 will be very light on fuel on the highway if you keep your foot off the pedal.
