Mercedes-Benz GLC

Official pics: Electric Mercedes GLC ramps up for September debut

Bold new styling language and tech-heavy new platform for EV counterpart to Merc's best-seller

Mercedes-Benz’s crucial new electric GLC has entered the final stages of development ahead of a public debut at the Munich motor show in September.

Stuttgart has released new official pictures of its rival to the upcoming BMW iX3, which marks not only the company’s next step in electrification, but also serves as the first passenger car model to introduce a bold new design language.

At the heart of the design shift is a taller, more upright grille, inspired by historic models like the Ponton - the predecessor to today’s E-Class. Mercedes-Benz design boss Gorden Wagener says the move is about giving future models “a strong identity” at a time when many electric cars are beginning to look alike.

Mercedes-Benz ready to unveil its most important EV yet: the all-electric GLC

The gasoline-powered GLC has been a runaway success for Mercedes-Benz, consistently topping its sales charts for years. It's the kind of vehicle that quietly defines a brand - practical, luxurious, and popular. Now, the German automaker is making its boldest move yet in the electric transition by unveiling an all-electric version of its bestseller. At the IAA MOBILITY 2025 show in Munich, Mercedes-Benz will pull the wraps off the new GLC with EQ Technology, ushering a new era for one of its most critical models.

The new electric GLC will be the star of the show, and for good reason. Converting a top-seller to an electric vehicle is a high-stakes bet. The company describes the new model as the "new face of the brand," aiming to keep the "iconic, versatile, and intuitive" nature of the original while moving it firmly into the electric future. While Mercedes has a growing lineup of EVs, electrifying the model that so many of its loyal customers already own is a big step.

But the GLC won't be arriving alone. Mercedes is using the IAA MOBILITY to reveal the full breadth of its electric ambitions. Sharing the stage will be the all-new CLA family, which will be available with both electric and hybrid powertrains, together with the brand-new all-electric CLA Shooting Brake.

Mercedes will also provide a glimpse into its more distant future. The brand will show off the technology-packed CONCEPT AMG GT XX that hints at the first production model to be built on the dedicated high-performance AMG.EA electric platform. For a different kind of luxury, Mercedes is promising a sneak peek at a camouflaged prototype of its all-new VLE, an all-electric "Grand Limousine" ready to hit the roads in 2026.

All-Electric Mercedes-Benz GLC Announced

Mercedes-Benz has announced the global debut of the all-electric GLC. Here’s what we know so far, including the reveal date.

In March 2025, Mercedes-Benz unveiled the all-new CLA, which included an all-electric model…and it seems the German marque’s best-selling SUV is following suit, with the Three-pointed Star brand announcing a battery-electric GLC is on the way. Scheduled to be revealed on 7 September, before making an appearance at the 2025 IAA Mobility show, which takes place in Munich from 9 to 14 September, the emissions-free version of the firm’s midsize SUV marks the next phase in the brand’s largest product launch programme to date.

Mercedes-Benz has said the GLC with EQ Technology (to use its full name) will retain the design, versatility, and appeal of its current-generation namesake – all while providing emissions-free driving. Though, detailed information about the powertrain and performance remains under wraps.

The next Mercedes GLC will be all-electric with a light-up grille and a HYPERSCREEN

Merc confirms its new GLC will arrive in September, with its new grille starting “a new era of iconic design”

Mercedes has announced that its new all-electric ‘GLC with EQ Technology’ will get a new, seamless take on the giant HYPERSCREEN from the EQE and EQS models. And we now know it'll be unveiled at the Munich motor show on 7 September. Big news given that the current GLC is Merc’s best-selling model.

There’s more, because Merc said this GLC will begin “a new era of iconic design at Mercedes-Benz”.

That’s because it features what Merc is calling its "new iconic grille" with a bright chrome surround and 942 pixel-like dots that are illuminated from behind and can be animated to display different graphics. Very futuristic. The giant Mercedes badge in the centre is also illuminated, although how much of that badge can be lit up will vary depending on the market. In Europe for example, the star can legally be lit up but the circle around it can’t.

The new grille seemingly marks a step away from the swoopy, pebble-like design of Merc’s original EQ electric cars, which can only be a good thing as you'd need a degree in car design just to be able to tell the EQE and EQS apart.

German EV showdown: Bold new Mercedes GLC and BMW iX3 to debut in September

There’s a German electric SUV showdown looming, and it starts at the IAA Mobility Summit in early September when the new BMW iX3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology will be revealed to the world for the first time.

Not only will the two battery-powered midsize SUVs be direct competitors when they hit the market, but both will usher in new design and engineering eras for their respective carmakers.

The Mercedes GLC electric debuts a brand new design language for the firm's electric vehicles, with the softer lines of its current EQ models having faced criticism for their lack of imagination and identity.

To whet our appetites, Mercedes released a teaser image this week, showing the new upright, and more traditional-looking, ‘grille’ that will feature on its electric GLC.

New Mercedes-Benz GLC EV: first look at bold new interior

New electric GLC will be offered with largest touchscreen yet seen on a Mercedes

The new electric Mercedes-Benz GLC, which is set to be unveiled imminently at the Munich motor show, will feature the largest digital display screen yet seen on one of the firm’s models.

The new SUV, which effectively succeeds the EQC and will be sold alongside the combustion-engined GLC, sits on a bespoke new EV platform. Mercedes has already shown the bold illuminated grille that will feature on the model and the firm has now given a first glimpse at its cabin.

The interior design is dominated by a revamped single-piece MBUX Hyperscreen, which measures 39.1in and spans the entire length of the new GLC’s dashboard. Mercedes says the screen offers “exceptional clarity” and uses matrix backlight technology from more than 1000 LEDs.

The screen will offer ‘intelligent zone dimming’, which means two display areas can be set to different levels of brightness using sliders. Mercedes claims it has filed a patent for that technology. It is understood that the Hyperscreen will be optional, with lower-level models featuring smaller screens.

Elsewhere, the interior showcases the latest evolution of Mercedes’ ‘sensual purity’ design language, which will be adopted by all future models. The centre console merges into the dashboard and can feature a wireless smartphone charging tray and cupholders.

There is extensive use of customisable LED lighting, which also adds to the functionality: the air vent illuminations will briefly change colour when the climate temperature is adjusted.

All-Electric Mercedes-Benz GLC Interior Revealed

Promising an immersive digital experience and minimalistic design, Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the interior of its upcoming all-electric GLC.

Following the August 2025 reveal of the front grille that will adorn the upcoming all-electric GLC, Mercedes-Benz has released images showcasing how this model’s cabin will look. The GLC with EQ Technology (to use its full name) marks the first Mercedes-Benz to sport the German marque’s Sensual Purity design language.

Inside, the emissions-free GLC will feature an all-new, 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen. According to the marque, the car’s infotainment display is the largest of its kind ever fitted to a Mercedes-Benz product. The MBUX Hyperscreen incorporates over 1 000 individual LEDs for enhanced resolution. In addition, it also features intelligent zone dimming, which allows the setup to be dimmed or brightened separately.

A design element that extends into the centre console, enhanced ambient lighting gives the illusion that the digital screen is floating. The ambient lighting, colour of the instrument panel and control elements can be adjusted based on different moods, from calm to intense, cool to warm, and technical to emotional.

Mercedes GLC EV gets a single screen that stretches across the entire dashboard

Mercedes-Benz pulled back the curtain on the interior of its electric GLC with a stunning, and slightly intimidating, screen that redefines the driver's environment.

Mercedes has revealed that its new electric GLC will feature a next-generation MBUX Hyperscreen. While the name might sound familiar to fans of the brand's other EVs, this one comes with a big update. Previous Hyperscreens, like the one found in the EQS sedan, were actually three separate screens cleverly hidden under a single pane of glass to create the illusion of one unit.

The new GLC EV does away with the illusion. It has a true, single-piece display measuring a massive 39.1 inches from one side of the dashboard to the other. This makes it the largest single display Mercedes has ever installed in a production vehicle.

This enormous digital canvas is powered by advanced backlighting technology using 1,000 LEDs, which Mercedes says will deliver brilliant colors and exceptional sharpness. The immediate question for many drivers, however, is about distraction. Staring at what amounts to a digital billboard while trying to navigate traffic can be a genuine concern.

Mercedes engineers have already considered this. The system includes a feature called "intelligent zone dimming," which can selectively darken or dim parts of the screen. This allows information like speed and navigation to remain visible to the driver, and entertainment or passenger-side widgets to fade into the background - a high-tech solution to a very modern problem.

The rest of the cabin is a thoughtful blend of technology and user-friendly design. Below the massive screen, a pair of central air vents neatly separates the display from the center console. Housed in the upper part of that console are two wireless smartphone charging pads, providing convenient power for both the driver and front passenger.
