Hey there - got a couple of questions and wondering if anyone can help or give advice.
My friend bought a Vodafone Novatel U630 online which had supposedly been unlocked to networks - I've yet to test this out at the moment though. (he ordered it from overseas)
What I'd like to know is - firstly with regards to using it with a vodacom sim and the Vodafone dashboard is whether people experience similar problems to me.
I live on the outskirts of Midrand/Centurion where even my cellphone seems to switch towers constantly, and holds on to a 3G signal only for short periods of time in certain areas of the house - and sadly not at all where my pc is based.
Thus I opt to use the Merlin 630 on my computer to get better speeds, however it's proved to be a frustrating experience. It maybe holds signal for 2 minutes then the light goes red, sometimes for up to 5 minutes. I also often get a message that the Sim is not ready.
That is with the setting to use 3G only, and I downloaded VMC 7.3 to correct the problem but to no avail, and using GPRS only (which gives me 4 signal bars as opposed to a maximum of 2 with 3G) means I have throughput for about 30 seconds and then it goes to a complete standstill.
I found that I had much less of this problem in another part of Gauteng so I'm sure it's got to do with my location, however it's really frustrating as the software hangs when it does that. I also downloaded the new firmware for the card but I get a communications error.
Anybody had similar problems and got any advice to offer?
SECONDLY, seeing as this card is supposedly unlocked, is there anyone else out there using such a card, and if I wanted to use MTN in the device, how do you recommend that I go about this? Should I download any other software?
