Mesh Home Router

Hi All, I am not to clued up with IT. I currently have an ADSL Line at home. We have no fiber available at the moment. I have a 2 story house and my house has a lot of dead spots. I was thinking of buying a mesh network, particularly the TP Link deco mesh M4. I wanted to know if anyone has this and how good it is and secondly does it work with ADSL Line. Also would like to know do I connect it from my existing modem to one of the mesh router via an Ethernet cable?

Hi, I have a Deco M4, and it's worked very well for me (easy to use, gets regular updates, only rare mishaps with disconnected signal which clears itself up in a minute or two). Yes, you can bypass your router if you wish and connect it directly to a Deco and set it (it is by default) to router mode and it will seamlessly pick up the rest and relay it.

Since you're only on ADSL for now, you can let them connect to each other via WiFi, but I recommend you eventually take the time to connect them up via Ethernet to get the best throughput in the future if / when you get Fibre or Fixed LTE.

Yes, the Decos will work with a DSL connection, and yes, your primary Deco connects to your modem via Ethernet cable… they then connect to each other by cable or wirelessly, depending on how you set up the mesh.

Yup, had the M4s and they were great… You could save a couple of hundred ZARs and get the E4s right now, but the Ms will be worth it later if you get fibre.

100mb ports on the E4 vs a gigabit port on the M4.
