Hi

Forwarded a message received from the MS universe to person at Gmail.

Got this:

This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.

A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its
recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:

xxxxxx @ gmail.com
message has lines too long for transport

Is this Google or something at Afrihost?

Never in all my years have I encountered this before :)

Thanks, Ian

I haven't seen this issue before but it seems to be a mail client issue.

You need to enable wrap text characters in the mail client settings.

What mail client are you using?

Kmail, since 2005.
It is set to wordwrap at column 78, but the message does contain long lines visible with View Source, for

ARC-Seal:
ARC-Message-Signature:
x-microsoft-antispam:

Those lines are solid hex so guess it does not try to "word" wrap ...

Is This MS breaking the internet again? :-)

Thanks, Ian

It might be but i'm thinking somewhere the mail client isn't behaving as it should.

The long lines are in the headers. I can forward the message "inline" which only forwards the message text, but forwarding as attachment drags the incoming message headers along, and they are the problem.

RFC 2822 is clear: Header lines MUST not be longer then 998 characters or be properly folded (as is also explained in the RFC).

Longest line goes to column 878.

So within parameters ... apologies MS :-).

Is the original error message from Afrihost or Gmail? Seems to be Afrhost:

Reporting-MTA: dns; smtp.afrihost.co.za

Thanks ,Ian
