So my company that I have taken over gets around 11 calls a week from debt collectors all over the place looking for a dodgy bloke that used to work here over 2 years ago. He apparently owes a lot of people a lot of money but we have no idea where he is.

He basically just up and left here one day without telling anyone anything. For the last couple of weeks these debt collectors have being getting on my nerves. No matter how much I tell them that we have nothing to do with that person... they still keep phoning.

So now that they are pissing on my battery I wanna get even.

In south africa do we have premium call numbers like they have in the UK? IE, you get charged R10 a min to phone it. Basically I want to setup that kinda service, with a long introduction ... hold music .. some "your call is important to us and will be answered shortly".... type stuff... but put into an infinite loop. I then wanna give all the debt collectors that number.

That way hopefully they will stop annoying me, and I can recoup the costs of my time that they are wasting.

Got any suggestions to deal with these vultures?

Of all the stupid ideas I have heard to get back at people that bother you YOURS gets my vote. To spend all that energy & effort just to "get back" at debt collectors who just happen to call YOU cause its THERE job.

You win the 1st weekly bex.cpt DUNCE award. You have gone above & beyond the call of stupidity to get back at someone. The Darwin award was considered BUT you have yet to reach THAT level of stupidity. :p

Bwahahahhahaa :D

Well "their job" is annoying me and disrupting "my job". Ive asked them nicely... about 50 times.. not to call me. Theyre one step short of a restraining order. While this might be acceptable to you bex, it is not for me.

I spent a lot of energy and time screwing Telkom over for annoying me. So I have more than enough energy for these vultures. Its not the cost, its the principle.

Whats stupid is phoning the same number several times a week when they have being asked not to phone.

Im sorry you felt like you had to insult me. Do you feel like "the man" now after doing that? Are you involved in any way with debt collection? The reason I am asking is your over reaction and insults are pretty bizarre... and I have spoken to a dozen or so people who laughed at the idea, but you are the only one who acted as though it was personal (it had to be personal for you to feel you needed to attack my personality).

W1z4rd, my wife has the same problem. She has just learn't to tell them that she too is looking for the person. Noticed a drop in the calls.

Would love to know how to stop it completely though.

bex if you're going to use CAPS make sure your spelling is correct ;)

Perhaps they think w1z is covering for him and are hoping he'll slip up

He owes us R500 000, so we are looking for him!!!! Problem is, when the company was formed, he was a business partner, when he left, the companies name was changed to stop him from coming back one day and claiming dibs on the work we have done since he disappeared.

We have told the vultures that we are looking for him, we have passed on any information we have, but they honestly just keep calling all the time. The worst is I have the companies emergency number on one of my cells, and they phone at all hours on that cellphone :(

uh no YOU get the dunce award of the week here. what is there not to understand if you are told endlessly that the person no longer works at said place!!!
it's like those telesales people who continually phone trying to sell deals. i just put the phone down on them. don't waste my time - did i give you my phone number in the first place to contact me with you speech - NO!!! then don't phone. end of story.

I might be able to assist you. PM me his details and I'll see what I can do. Please include his full names and ID number.

Just get call hold on your phone, say please hold, put the person on hold and forget about them.

What I do when sales people call me on my cellphone, also a huge drop in those calls since I started this practice.
