So I have been waiting for this call for many years now. I have had an analog mnet dekodeerder for about 10 years now, got it from my wife's uncle. The benefit was that I could always get ss1 while paying only dstv. I think it used to be called csn.
Today I get the call to say they will be installing a dish and HD decoder for free (R100 fee to installer) and that I will see the same channels as before. Only problem is I don't know what channel I will be getting in dstv to replace the csn channel? Other than that seems like a win...

Are you sure? I think you'll be expected to pay dstv fees depending on which bouquet you choose.

My parents were upgraded 2 weeks ago. The installer has been back to their place 4 times after the upgrade due to signal losses.

Any of you able to tell us what size antenna, type and model of LNB and what decoder was installed please?

Or is it a dvbt2 terrestrial decoder which actually makes more sense.

Also ask them to send it to you on email.

Okay, Here is the complete story.

(1) Being done by MC at NO charge on a province for province basis. The R 100 charge has recently been dropped.
(2) The decoders are being replaced with GOTV decoders so it is NOT a satellite decoder. It is part of the DTT migration process therefore.
(3) MC is undertaking the work with a selected group of accredited installers.
(4) ONLY being done for active customers still using MNET analogue decoders and the package is 2 channels, CSN and MNET. The package is called MNET GO.
(5) The charge is R 389 per month or thereabouts give a few cents which is apparently the same as the existing charge for the analogue service.

interesting
I completely forgot about GOTV I guess DSTV wants to be proactive since DTT migration is just doesn't seem to be going anywhere

I plugged an old bunny ears antenna into a bottom of the range digital TV and did an auto search the other day. Was very surprised at the results. Picked up the GOtv channels plus now that I know about this arrangement, CSN and MNet as well. Could not view as the signal is encrypted. Was quite surprised that the TV did have a DVB T2 tuner as well as the analogue tuner.

I have decided to go and reconnect the old terrestrial antenna I have and see what happens with a better signal. I am presuming I should be able to pick up the DVB T2 SABC channels as well.

PS. GOtv is encrypted hence why a STB/decoder is required ... You may be able to see the channels but will not be able to tune to them unless received via a decoder and have an active account with MC/GOtv.

Definitely a dish. Now I am on hold to multichoice because I don't have mnet or csn!

So what decoder did they install?
Does it have a satellite input?

Ok all sorted this morning, dish needed more alignment. Looks like it's an explora HD and mnet is on channel 902 now for some reason, csn on 490.

Thanks for the updates, brianj74 !
Whereabouts are you based ?

Interesting, so it looks like Multichoice ditched their plans to host the digital version of M-Net on the GOtv DTT platform (as was originally announced here) and instead went with something carried on satellite - at least in some areas.
Perhaps the signal quality and/or coverage on the GOtv terrestrial setup wasn't adequate in all areas ?

Edit : Turns out that both options are actually available at the moment (circa Dec 2017) : M-Net delivered via GOtv on digital terrestrial TV (DTV) in areas where there is good GOtv coverage; and M-Net delivered the normal DStv satellite (IS20) on a special "M-Net only" package where there is bad or no GOtv DTT coverage. See posts by Geoff.D et al later in the thread.

Yes thanks very much.
Could you be more specific about the decoder please?
Press menu, information and give us the model number on the top line?
