Is the body corporate allowed to charge a fee for meter reading in a complex

Correct. Its a service thats being delivered. Just as water or electricity or gardening, or insurance.

Wouldn’t it depend on who’s maintaining the electrical infrastructure up until the meter?

The meter(s) are owned by the BC. You own your unit and the geyser if mounted outside. Thats it.

See it this way, your estate have meter(s) per unit. The BC cant expect that every owner submits his own reading. That will be one mega nightmare.

So for billing purposes, a firm should or rather must take monthly readings.

I own couple of properties in the coastal areas and meter reading is not charged to any of them.
So how is it that they have recoveries on electricity, but yet charge us for meter reading? Worse of it that sometimes they use our maintenance manager to do meter reading and earns salary from the body corporate

Ask a full levy breakdown, as in ask how does my levy of Rxxx get calculated.

If you dont see it as a one liner on your statement, it will be worked into your levy.

Its exactly the same as you stating with elec, its recoverable, as the BC needs to pay the municipality. The same with meter readers, its a service, and I doubt it will be written off

The maintenance manager should raise this actually.

You should query that..we have an external metre reading company that does our readings all the time

I live in a complex in eThekweni. The electricity meters are in a locked room in a common area. Are there any rules / laws preventing / restricting unit owners from accessing this room in order to read their meter? (there is nothing in the complex rules) What rights do I have?

Anyone else unable to login to eTshwane? I've been trying for past couple of days.
