So what do you guy's know about cleaning the insides of your pc's it's seems like my ZALMAN fan is building up a lot of dust these day's

I took out all my cards and hdd's and used a dry paintbrush to brush all the dust off, my CPU now runs 5 degrees cooler after I had cleaned it.

Take it to a petrol station and use thos air pumps which they use for filling air into tyres to blow out all the dust. 1-2 minutes and it will be as new!

I think the msot common way to clean dust off computer components is compressed air. I find that an old toothbrush also works quite well, especially for hard to clean places on some zalman heatsinks.

Just be careful of static and think about it when choosing what to clean with ;)

That's a good idea xenithon. I just wonder what they going to think when you get there with your pc :p

But isn't the pressure on those spray valves to much?

We use a Makita blower to clear customers pc's.Have use air at petrol station to clear thier pc's aswell when onsite without blower just check if its not wet on ure hand and ask them when was thier compressor last drained.

The pressure is fine.Just hold the fans down.

I have been thinking that Zalman coolers have gone backwards, stock cooling gathers less dust :D

how do you check the temperature of your cpu?

Also just to add. If you're gonna used air pressure to clean you fans, remember to hold or clamp the fan-blades down so that the air doesn't spin the them. The fans may get damaged and become noisy.

will vacume cleaners also work you know those small hand held ones? or the bigger ones?

Hairdryer = hot

If you're experienced with PCs: Get hold of a blower (someone you know must have one), a toothbrush and take your entire pc to bits.

Take out fans, heatsinks, hard drives, ram and optical drives. Lay all the bits out on a static-free flat surface and make sure you're not going to nuke stuff with static.

Individually clean each component with the blower and then the toothbrush, making sure to get dust out from the slots in heatsinks and corners of your case. If your case has dust filters, clean 'em the same way (carefully). You can wash them if you want but make damned sure they're dry again.

Re-assemble and go.

If you're not experienced: Form O shape with mouth, locate dusty bit and blow. Alternatively, pay some dorra to a PC place to clean it for you.

Seriously though if you're comfortable with taking your PC apart then it's actually quite therapeutic to take stuff apart and make sure it's good and clean.
