Metro taking advantage?

if you get into the habit of stopping at stop signs, you would remember if you stopped or not. if you are in the habit of sometimes stopping. well, then you are going to struggle tor remember if you did or didn't.

and for the girlfriend, i wouldn't trust what she had to say unless she's an expert and totally unbiased. i know my SO sticks up for me and I do have to advise her when i was actually in the wrong (it's a natural relationship reaction to support the one you are with)

I usually do stop that is the thing. I am a very nervous driver I fear death on the road all the time lol. I just have absolutely no memory of it because the shot of adrenalin that spiked when the cop fined me had my mind suddenly spiral out of control. Apparently my legs were even shaking :(

I just had a look on street view and where the cop was standing there is no way he could actually tell if I stopped because of a wall/gate that obstructs view completely. Sorry it isn't The Straight but Forest Drive.

In this picture, the cop was standing on the pavement to the right about where this shot is. I was turning in from the right road and down towards the camera.

The left turn is directly into Pineslopes shop for those who may know this area.

Okay I am not going to really comment much more here it is getting me down and not of much help except one or two posters earlier, thanks. But I have decided to pursue it tomorrow with the station and contact details I have. I've pretty much had all day to think about it. I just hope I can maintain decent demeanor when I confront them.

Cheers all :)

you might be able to fight this in court, if you wanted. your reasoning seems sound.

I dont know if it will stick.

The problem here is that the cop had a colleague with him that can state that you did not stop, so there is two people that can vouch on their side.

You cant remember so that leaves one witness on your side, your girlfriend.
Going to court and try to disprove the police will frankly cost you more in court fees than just paying the reduced fine.

If you can't proof that you are the innocent party you will have to pay the full fine and the court fees.
If you can prove that you did stop, it will still cost you court fees and allot of time that you might not have to take off to sit at the court for hours.

Now the reduced fine on the other hand means either, he pitied you and try to help you out even if you were in the wrong and he tried to be nice.

On the other hand you might have came to a complete stop and took off and he is trying to fill up the quota for the holiday season to get hes bonus.

I really would just pay the fine and learn a lesson to make sure you know you have stopped.
Yes it is a bitter taste in the mouth but consider it school fees.

^ Yeah Acid perhaps it wouldn't be worth the R250-00. I'm really considering a dashcam now if anything to prove me wrong if ever I am - that way I benefit and learn from the incident at the same time. Any recommendations on dashcams would be welcome but I'm sure its been discussed before - will check. I am still going to make that call today as there is no way the officer could see my approach from his POV and his partner was already occupied with another vehicle.

I just logged onto FNB out of interest to check if I have any outstanding fines...

There are 2. R500 each.

One says I was in excess of speed limit (by quite a lot, and I am religious to sticking to speed limit like its an OCD all the time - I can never bring myself to go over) while operating a vehicle with GVM greater than 9000 kg  say what?

The other says I did not obey a traffic signal and had no RWC (Road Worthy Certificate). I have never been stopped to check this, nor recall a similar incident, and drive a Honda Civic A/T in very good shape - by then it was hardly 6 months old from the shop granted it is 2nd hand. But if that is just procedural then maybe?

Both offenses do not have photos nor location on the paycity site so I am going to have to find out more and suffer the inconvenience. If I am in the wrong I will pay :o, just seems very suspect and I am feeling rather aggressive about it... I would recommend everyone else double check their fines as well. Not so long ago a family member received identical fines (picture and all) for completely different locations which doesn't help me trusting any of this.

If they have no proof they will HAVE to squash the two tickets.
So if you did not sign anywhere on one of those fines, they cant prove it thus will HAVE to make the two tickets void.

For the RWC they had to pull you over inspect the car and obviously write out the ticket on the spot and made you sign.

I don't for one second doubt some are really just trying to write illegal tickets and hope you will pay it.

So don't take all offenses as its your responsibility but its always the time and effort you have to put in to actually prove they do not do their job and then they just squash it.

There are no good metro cops in Johannesburg. Every single one of them is a waste of oxygen.

Unlucky for you, Bobbin! You should have made more of a fuss and you gf should have backed you up saying you did stop. Now it's too late. Going to cost you so much time and effort to get it overturned.
