Good day to all!

So 2 months ago Metrofibre started with the installation of the fibre infrastructure at our apartment building (there are about 130 units). When they started with the project the project manager told us that the amount of units needed to make the building live doesn't matter as the client can just install the fibre into their unit later, but for an additional fee. Now today the project manager told me the requirement to make the building live is for each unit to have the fibre installed into their homes which isn't possible because there are older people and people who just doesn't want fibre living in the apartment building. Has anyone else experienced this and does anyone have suggestions on what i can do?

Hi @JackAfrican

This sounds a bit strange but I'm not sure... Generally the MFN model would be to go into an estate and install fibre & termination points into any unit which was interested in taking up a service. This was also usually done at no cost to the home owner/tenant. Basically... the fibre installation itself was free - even if the person decided not to take up a service in the future. People were only expected to pay once signing up for the internet service itself, and even then there was no added installation cost... Clients would pay an activation fee and whatever the monthly premium was - and thats it. If however the project had already been completed and someone wanted fibre taken into their unit afterwards, then they would be expected to pay for installation + monthly package.

MFN's interest would likely be to fibre up as many of the units as possible, if not all of them... and as explained above - in the past there was no expectation that all of those clients then had to sign up guaranteed. Generally the only requirement for a provider to deploy fibre into an estate is simply to have a certain percentage of interested residents. i.e 40% of the people are likely to sign up therefore go ahead...What you are mentioning above just doesnt sound correct...Perhaps things have changed I dont know :) I would think if they wanted all the units to have fibre then they would go ahead install it like that - its in their best interest... but I dont think they are then necessarily also expecting every single unit to have to pay for that to be done...it used to be free!

Phone MFN offices and request to speak with a senior project manager or someone in the projects team. If you dont get any joy try escalating or speaking to someone senior on FTTH sales side or a FTTH service delivery manager .. hope this helps, good luck!
