Major MetroFibre overhaul

MetroFibre has made several changes to its fibre packages, with the fibre network operator (FNO) introducing a 75Mbps package for R797 per month.

The FNO has also created two network classifications. It has dubbed its older network MetroFibre Nexus, while the newer portion of its network will be named MetroFibre Nova.

Good day sir, may I ask what the new price will be on the prepaid side of MetroFibre will be? That is what my family and I are using. If you could be so kind to give me some insight please.

Good grief. It's becoming worse than the quagmire that's banking fees to try and milk as much from it as possible.

"Discontinued for new sign-ups"
Translates to me that existing customers are not getting the speed upgrade.

MFN doesn’t seem to plan very well though. Or staff aren’t educated on the plans.

When I moved over a few months ago to their new 250Mbps package, they took my money - but I noticed I was still on my 100Mbps profile. When I asked, they said they decided to cancel the 250Mbps.

The next month it was back though … brand new package … and 2 months after that the price goes up.

I’d have thought these would be issues that would have been ironed out before launch

So the existing network would now have:

25/25 @ R 500
75/75 @ R 800
250/250 @ R 900
400/400 @R 1000
500/500 @R 1200
1000/500 @ R 1300

All things considered, it's pretty good pricing compared to some other FNOs like Vumatel. I personally feel they can do away with 400/400

From 75 -> 400 is R200 extra. Then only 400->500 is another R200 extra. WTF?

The problem with any investment driven company is the investors that wants constant growth on their investments. This is impossible to maintain considering South Africa has shown no growth for several consecutive years now. This is mainly due to poor governance and broken down infrastructure. The reality is that investors should be capped globally.

Not only will it stabilize the economy and allow for long term growth, they will still make money as these systems will not stop to earn money.

Right now our market concept is based on hit and run economics. It is not benefiting anyone and it is devaluing our job market. So seeing this type of thing from good companies like Metro is sad but a reality.
