Hi all,

Perhaps someone can help. My VDSL has been synching perfectly at 40Mbps for the past year, all of a sudden it starts to drop my PPPOE connection. As far as I can see, the model does not loose sync, purely the pppoe just disconnects randomly.

line stats look all fine.

VDSL Port Details Upstream Downstream
Line Rate: 3.129 Mbps 41.116 Mbps
Actual Net Data Rate: 3.072 Mbps 40.956 Mbps
Trellis Coding: ON ON
SNR Margin: 16.7 dB 7.5 dB
Actual Delay: 4 ms 8 ms
Transmit Power: 2.7 dBm 14.5 dBm
Receive Power: -16.8 dBm -6.9 dBm
Actual INP: 2.0 symbols 3.0 symbols
Total Attenuation: 19.5 dB 21.5 dB
Attainable Net Data Rate: 8.274 Mbps 55.388 Mbps

Any idea? Anybody else having issues?

Thanxs

How often does this happen?

Firmware fully up to date?

Router starting to fail?

Give it a factory reset and retest.

It is quite random. At some times is disconnects every 5-10 mins, and in other cases won't disconnect for hours but only started to misbehave from around Tuesday evening 11pm this week. Before it would be connected for weeks without disconnect.

Could it be the router? or more likely telkom?

Could be either.

Maybe see if you can borrow a VDSL router to try on your line before logging a fault with Telkom?

Also maybe contact your ISP and see if they can see any issues on their end?

This dropping is actually happening to everyone who has ADSL connecting to that Exchange. It's not just your line.
I can confirm that I have visited 3 clients on that exchange who have all been complaining of the same thing.
And it's happening to my ADSL as well.
It must be a Telkom cable fault or box fault.

I haven't experienced any issue - my DSL has been solid for the last while.

Hi all, it would help if everyone can log a fault of an intermittent service, the number of faults raised might get it some attention

seems to be an issue on the backhaul or something, when i tried to debug it seems that xDSL modem sends a magic packet (keep-alive) every 20 seconds on layer 2 that keep the connection up, if it fails to receive a response from the exchange and then disconnects and reconnects. My line stats seems fine, I get the max speed, very little errors, just random disconnects. Perhaps @TelkomZA can help?

Another thought, whether there might be new RF interference in the Area that could be causing issues?

Would be nice if someone could light of the DFA fibre that was laid a year or so back in the area.

are you guys still experiencing problems with your ADSL connections, since Friday last week been having same experience as above, randomly Internet drops, if I connect onto Router says I'm still connected, drop and redial and it takes a few minutes to connect, tried spare router, different ISP- same crap.

Logged call Sunday evening online and still in "testing" phase.

Yep, I have also been having the dropping again for a few days now. We logged a fault about 4 days ago.
Last night it went off for an hour or so.
I wondered if they were trying to work on it.
I'm using WebAfrica at the moment.

I been lucky, had DSL for last 16 months and first time I have had an issue, just painful as I depend on Netflix for my evening watching.

I'm with afrihost, used IS account to test, no luck

OK, well at least we know it is not isolated to us only.
Hopefully they will give it more attention if it is widespread.
Disconcerting though that it seems like an ongoing problem.
