I am without my Galaxy S3 while being fixed by a Samsung Service Centre. The repair should have been 2 to 3 days and is now dragging onward toward 2 weeks now (spares unavailable they say :wtf:), and they don't know when I can anticipate it being repaired.

I do not have another device to put the micro sim card into.

I am looking for a cheap device/handset which I can buy as a backup. Not too fussed about the OS - just so long as I can insert my sim and make calls.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.
McT :)

You are lucky you got a micro SIM to work. My problem was the other way around, porting from a standard SIM to a micro-SIM

In the end I bought a CellC SIM and just had my old number put back in it. Cost = 99c and 30 mins work on the phone (I'm presuming you have spare phone to use)

Wouldn't it be better to get a dual sim card? You could use your old phone, or a cheaper phone than one that requires a micro sim.

Uhm, did you read the OP?

Excuse my noob-ness on this, but do you mean a dual sim phone which could take both the normal and smaller sim card?

Maybe I'm the noob. I meant 2 sim cards linked to one account / number.

Cant you get an "adapter" into which i you can put the micro sim, so that you can put it into a phone that takes a normal sized sim?

Can't you get a SIM adapter to get your micro SIM back to standard size? Then you could use any old cheapo in the interim.

iFix sells the adapters. they gave me one for free to convert nano sim to micro sim.

No worries - all advice welcome. :)

Did not realise this was an age old problem. The DIY job looks like an interesting work-around :)
