Right so this might seem like a stupid question, but I have one of those Telkom cordless gateway routers which has the wifi-dsl router with bundled DECT cordless phone. The thing is it only has one point where you can plug a phone line into. The router also functions as the base-station for the dect handset.

If there is only one slot then where do you fit the micro-filter? it says in the manual that it *needs* a filter but doesnt actually come with one.
If i put a filter on the line then isnt that going to interfere with the DSL considering its one phone line?

DECT phone (with no place to plug in a phone line on the base-set)

Any ideas?

If there's no other place where you can plug in a cord and filter then the manual must be wrong. Any filter between the router and the wall will prevent the adsl from working.

Have you tried it without?

No not yet, im going to try it when i get home in 20 mins.
I was going to pop past telscum first to buy a micro-filter but after thinking for a bit i realised it would probably cause havoc with the adsl signal.

I can only assume it has a filter built into the router? its not that unreasonable to assume considering it has the phone base station built into it!

If you have other phones/fax machines/normal modems including an alarm system you're still going to need those filters.

I noticed that when i use the bundled dect phone that it works fine. But as soon as i use the the phone connected to another outlet it drops the line.
Seems the cordless gateway has a built in microfilter and the other line needs a micro-filter.
Looks like i will need to get one from telscum tomorrow because the netgear ones that i have dont seem to work.

Getting microfilters, for 'free'...

Similar situation here, except that it didn't drop the line, but the line was incredibly noisy.

Popped into the Telkom Direct store this afternoon and had an interesting experience...

Asked if they had microfilters, and to my delight the guy knew what I was talking about, and went to look in the back. He asked me how many I wanted, so I asked the price. R39 per. I said "two" (I figured at some point I might want to add another analogue device, so I may as well get the second microfilter now).

Guy comes back out with the 2 microfilters. He then proceeds to tell me that he's giving them to me for free because (and perhaps I misheard him) they're "out of stock."

This made absolutely no sense to me, but gift-horse-mouth and all that, so I thanked him and left quickly, microfilters in hand, before he came to his senses. :)

Oh, each microfilter is also a splitter.

(And it was the Telkom Direct store in the Mall of Rosebank, if anyone feels like trying their luck... :) )
