I hope this has not been covered before but if somebody could help I would appreciate it.

I am new to ADSL and ever since having it installed a few months ago I have been having a problem with lightning.

Without fail, whenever there is lightning in the area I have to replace the three microfilters I have on my two telephones and fax machine. In the past I have never, touch wood, had any telecommunication equipment affected by lightning.

My router is completely unaffected by the lightning.

Is this common; are microfilters very sensitive to lightning?

I live in a lightning sensitive house as well. Don't take the chance, if you know a thunderstorm is coming, don't leave your equipment plugged in, I can do a myadsl search for you now and show you at least 2 or 3 threads in my past on this forum with lightning damage.

The hard lesson to learn and learn quickly is to always unplug, phone lines, router and pc as well as it's equipment like printers.

Short answer to the question, yes, I have found that the filters are very sensitive to lightning and even line breaks or line noise, I have replaced numerous filters and it's cost a pretty penny ;)
