Microserver Alternatives?

In other words it's more expensive for the same speed.

There's space for an SSD and there's USB for external storage, so it's up to you.

Why would internal be a requirement?
Because he asked for a Microserver replacement, more or less the same form factor, to be used for storage and playback. Not a Cromecast replacement or a tiny little media player replacement.

Chromecast... lol!

a Microserver replacement must be able to take at least 4-5 hdd's. Less than that is useless as a NAS.

It's not a NAS, it's a server.

See, the clue is right there in the name, MicroSERVER

You're welcome.

Something like this?

Edit: I see most components are cheaper at Takealot

I have that MB and I'm very happy with it. It has 5 x SATA3 6.0 Gb/s connectors. Rather get a Intel G3258 CPU (R899) and build around that

Can an A10 or A8 work in these cases with the cooling constraints

Not really sure why you want to go A10 or A8 but the AM1 is perfect for streaming and as a download server. I will be running a Linux Mint VM for SABNZBD, SickBeard and CP and store the downloaded files on the "Mother" OS in my movies and series folder where Plex will monitor this folder and update the necessary backdrops etc.

From there on out, I can stream the content to my TV.

One thing that I am looking for is a wifi projector that has a Plex app :D

My new setup will be:

ASUS AM1i-A socket AM1 m-itx 499.00 499.00
Amd Kabini(am1) Quad 5350 2.05 771.00 771.00
