I am wondering if I should set up a Lync server on our server?

We already use Gtalk and Skype for various clients. Are there any additional benefits to Lync?

It is secure, Lync 2013 has Skype gateway

It is an all in one client and can interact with your phone lines and have it as your voice system too

It has desktop sharing and presenting
Does calls, IM, video and presentation.
Has audit tracking and legal features to search what employees are doing and saying
History tracking

so basically : apt-get install squid netmon asterisk auditd for R 8000.00

nice. :D

Far from, pay for G729. No integrated client that does voice, IM, video, GAL / AD integration, single sign on, management interface for Helpdesk staff.

We run Lync, and I chat with guys at Jhb office for meetings every now and again. We do video chats etc, but I find Lync very erratic. Some days the mics just wont work, other days the video is bad. So we use Lync for text chats....and Skype for video and the quality with Skype (still not great) is better than Lync. No issues with mic on Skype either.

The headset we use are MS and Lync approved...so go figure. Just my experience ;)

Thanks for the advice guys. I already have the license.

Just for interest sake - would it be suitable to allow clients to connect to us so they don't have to drive 400km (we are on the other side of Polokwane) so we could do presentations online, or us having to drive 400km to them?
