I need to get a microsim soon, do I just go to an MTN store (my SP) and ask for one?

Do you know how long it takes to get one and how much it costs?

immediately available.. supermarket might be cheaper. sometimes SP try to charge too much for them.

nice blutic for letting us know that you're getting a new phone.

Thanks on the blutic. :P

I need to get a sim with my same number, not a new one...
i just got my htc one today and cut my old one using a template from http://www.airportal.de/nanosim/ and a stanley knife. worked perfectly and didn't cost a cent (office printer )
how's that for a blutic?
Thanks I might do that.

Yeah, and a buddy ended up with 3 contracts. He wanted his prepaid number changed to a contract(1), He received a sim with his contract(2) and needed a microsim(3) for his S4 .............................

If you are in Cape Town you are welcome to pop into my work and use my sim card cutter.

But what you can do if you want a "proper" micro sim is buy a prepaid one and do a sim swap. Last one I did took 7 hours. Your old sim just loses connectivity and then you put the new one in and you are sorted.

No thanks, 7 hours it took your cutter ? .........:-)

I tried to DIY my micro sim, it didn't work out too well...

If I had known I can pop into cellc and only pay R10 for a replacement sim I would've driven down there in a heartbeat instead of spending time trying to cut the damn thing myself!

The Apple shop in Canal Walk quickly circumcised my old SIM for free (and I'm not even an Apple user!), turning it into a micro-SIM. I then bought an adapter set from a Vodacom shop, which allows you to do the nano --> micro --> mini thing.

Pooky, it differs from place to place. At two Vodacom retailers I managed to walk in and buy two microsims at around R120 (or something like that). Another Vodacom retailer made their Microsims available to only contract holders.

I went to only one MTN retailer and theirs were only reserved for contract holders.

I went to 8ta a few times and theirs are totally free.

Thanks, I'm with MTN on contract so hopefully they will give me one, I will ask and if it's too expensive then I will try DIY it.

Okay, yeah, I know for a fact that they told me their Microsims were available to contract holders only. They also said it was just over the R100 mark per card.

MTN charged me R109 for the replacement sim whereas Vodacom was only R65.

The sim-cutter does work however, if you remove and re-insert your sim too many times into the same and/or other devices, the quality does start to get compromised as opposite to an actual supplied nano-sim / micro

I paid R19 for a new micro sim from the MTN store last weekend. I tried all the usual places but nobody kept micro sims.

Game charged me R29 for a micro-sim for Cell C
