Microsoft could remove Teams from Office package

Microsoft has offered to create a version of its Office and Microsoft 365 productivity suite without the Teams video conferencing and collaboration app, Financial Times reports.

The commitment comes after several parties — including Slack owner Salesforce — complained to the European Union (EU) that Microsoft's bundling of Teams with Office was anti-competitive.

Help us EU, our products are overpriced and people are not buying it because they get much better value from Microsoft.

Yes - max 720p video in Teams is so much better value than full 4k in Zoom.

so why are most businesses not using Zoom instead?

Also, Teams is a lot more than just webmeeting software

You missing the point that you get what you pay for.

Teams is still a pile of **** but by bundling it in users are tricked into using it.

Make it a separate app so people get a choice (or a forced to make an informed one) in what app they want to use.

Would Microsoft be able to persuade anyone to use Teams if it wasn't bundled?

The fact that it is integrated with Onedrive and SharePoint makes a big difference. it's more of a business projects portal.

Sure it could be a lot better quite easily. but it meets the bar of "good enough" for most people.

How is this integration different to what Zoom offers? Is sufficiently better to compensate for the extremely poor quality of Teams‘ video meeting feature?

Nobody forces you to use it.

You pay for office and get Teams for free ... why pay extra for a different competitive app?

This is how MS weasels out the competition and while I have a personal choice - companies dictate what users *have* to use when they dont see the value in paying more for something else ;-)

As most office license are paid for by corporates - most people are forced to use Teams and/or do not have the option of personal choice.

You can download zoom for free. You can use it from the web, same with Google meet an others.

Personally I hat the way Teams try to absorb everything office but this is just pathetic from the EU. The world has got real problems.
