It's Ctrl-Alt-5

Don't you have to change the keyboard in use from US to something else in the Control Panel?

Tried that, no luck.
doesn't work for me :/
Mine works in Ubuntu if I set the 'Adding EuroSign to certain keys' to '5', and don't have any other keyboard functions assigned to the Right Alt (AltGr), and then I can press AltGr + 5 to get the € symbol
Edit: my keyboard layout is US.
A lot is dependant on the keyboard driver in use & the font in use!
A sure fire way is to type: e u r o which has a 100% success rate!
Alt-Gr plus the 5 key should give the € symbol...
If you really must have the € symbol just use ALT plus 0128
Going to try download Microsoft's drivers for the keyboard and see if that helps.
