Microsoft launches Windows Defender for Android

Well yes, but:
1.) You and Thor only mentioned Play Protect and not the entire ecosystem,
2.) This is mostly a GMS and specific browser feature so users looking to sidestep Google or use devices which cannot have this legally won't be protected in the same manner (a weaker numbered point sure) and
3.) This doesn't account for certain manufacturers building backdoors into their ROMs which makes this entire stack moot anyways.

If it's a true 'public' release it shouldn't be corporate specific. Then it's a 'business release' preview. I don't see mentioning that it's a consumer release.

So I can't fault your post. Just the description and info that MS provides.
AFAIK, MS does not offer a business release/app on Android.
On Android, Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, Skype for B, OneDrive are all public.
When you need to access company email/calendar/address book, you need Intune (aka Company Portal) MDM App installed which wraps the public Outlook app.

What determines the "business release" is the license used when you login via Intune (aka Company Portal)
Same app with a business license.

EDIT:
My concern is that Intune (aka Company Portal) MDM is a device admin and a policy from your employer could force Defender onto you BYOD phone and allow employer to collect & snoop all your private browsing in the name of supposed security (think of the children analogy).
