Microsoft Mouse problem

What is up with Microsoft's optical mice? Every single one I've ever used, has the same tendency to shoot the cursor down to the left bottom corner of the screen, at completely random intervals, when working on a vaguely shiny surface (like a desk or even one of these plasticy mousepads). Regardless of operating system. My Genius Netscroll+ never did this.
