Microsoft has released an “early preview” of their Windows 7 Training Kit for developers.
On the Microsoft blog the company has revealed that developers can now download an RC training kit which will allow them to become familiar with Windows 7 before its official release in October.
The early version includes “10 presentations and 8 Hands-On-Labs (HOL), covering most of the Windows 7 light-up features as well as application compatibility topics.”
The Hands on Labs “gives you the opportunity to get firsthand experience in programming key Windows 7 Light-Up features, such as the Taskbar, Libraries, Multi-Touch, Sensors and Location, Graphics, Ribbon, Trigger Start Services, Instrumentation and Event Tracing for Windows (ETW),” said Microsoft.
There are also a number of key Light-Up Features in Windows 7 that will be explained in the HOL presentations.
These include:
Taskbar
The new Taskbar in Windows 7 is set to streamline many functions such as launching applications, switching between running applications and windows within a single application, managing recent/frequent user destinations, accessing common application tasks, reporting progress and status notifications.
Libraries
Libraries is set to be an evolution of the ‘My Documents’ concept that offers users an entry point to data.
Multi- Touch
Multi- Touch will allow “developers to quickly and easily create unique application experiences that go beyond simple mouse pointing, clicking, and dragging”. It features pan, zoom and rotate and also includes raw touch data inputs and advance manipulation and interties.
The Windows 7 Training for developers is available for free download although it requires a Windows 7 RC machine and Visual Studio 2008 SP1 to operate.
