Microsoft has finally revealed its highly-anticipated handheld console, years after it was first rumoured.

The ROG Xbox Ally will let gamers access their Game Pass subscription library on-the-go, in effect meaning members will start off with hundreds of games.

It is being made in partnership with Asus, which has been making handheld gaming devices since 2023, and will be released at the end of 2025 - though it is unknown what it will cost.

Speculation over Microsoft making a handheld Xbox has been widespread for more than a decade, with the company starting and scrapping various efforts over the years.

I'm sold on this, a lot of improvements over the previous generation, especially the UI.

Definitely insuring and taking extra warrantee on mine, this time.

It certainly looks interesting. I've been using Xbox Remote Play on my Android phone when the console/TV is in use by other family members, and the experience has been less than desirable, to say the least, especially since they removed that functionality from the mobile application.

Not sure if there will be two versions of the Z2 Extreme version. An "Xbox" one and a Windows 11 one, i.e. one with the full Windows 11 on it and not the stripped down version of the Xbox one. Can the Xbox one run standard STEAM, GOG, Epic, Origin and stand alone games.

But regardless it should have at least 32GB of RAM with RDNA 3.5 GPU and user up-gradable NVME slot so one could fit in a 4TB SSD in there. Likely there will be hall effect sticks too.

I was intrigued by the price of the Switch two MicroSD Express cards, and I see the 1TB version by Lexar retails at 38,000 yen which is over R5000. For my Rog Ally, I got a 2TB SSD for less than that. The MicroSD Express is limited to 900MB/sec read while the NVME can do over 3,000MB/sec.

Hey Xbox Insiders, starting this week users enrolled in the PC Gaming Preview can get a first look at the new aggregated gaming library in the Xbox PC app for Windows 11 PCs and handheld devices. The feature will be available this holiday on the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X, where players will see their aggregated gaming library within the new Xbox full screen experience. With this new feature, your Xbox library, hundreds of Game Pass titles (membership required), and all your installed games from other PC game stores are always at your fingertips.

Price revealed yet?

Just glad the SteamOS has finally given MS a reason to trim the fat on the windows 11. Although its only for the Handhelds.
One can only hope desktop windows takes note of the positive feedback and desire for a trimmed down win11 experience.

They did say the Gaming OS will be available for install on Desktop & handheld but that is over 1-2 years away. Some speculate that the next Xbox console will most likely be this OS on dedicated hardware capable of playing PC & Console titles.

It would make the most sense.

Thinking further along your decision for a next generation console might be more along the lines of do you want a purely desktop/TV experience or optionally a docked handheld for more versatility but at a higher cost.

Think we are way too stuck on thinking about an Xbox consoles AND a handheld equation but this won’t be necessary at all really.

Microsoft is laying the groundwork already with their "Play Anywhere" push. Something to use to bug me is that I had buy seperate games for PC vs Console. I see them pushing for buying a game once on Xbox market and own it for both PC and Console

US store takes it even to cloud play, no sub needed:

We just need Cloud Gaming. Doesn’t make sense why we still don’t have it with two Azure centres in SA

I mean they’ve been doing this for years already, the marketing is just pushing it harder now and they own more of it of course.

Yeah, there was a full push in 2019, with plans to launch in 2020, then Covid.

I guess that the political and economic climate after that made the hold permanent.

The GPU present in that thing is already out in the AMD Rizen AI HX.

So one can get an idea of the performance increases. Wukong was running at 80fps without frame gen on, which was quite an improvement. 99W battery will also allow for a longer playtime.
