Microsoft Surface tablets languish

Microsoft reported lower-than-expected quarterly earnings as the company took an unexpected $900 million charge for its inventory of unsold Surface tablets.

At a $billion they will probably be selling them as mousepads soon.

Mhhhh yummy see further price cuts for the surface.

Are we even getting these devices at all here in the 'other markets'.

I do not understand Microsoft's approach with the Surface and RT.

Ill contrived approach on the whole, me thinks. They should just ditch RT and go full throttle with Win8.

They realised they were in the game too late and tried to recover too quickly.

Agreed. My father has one. Lump of crap. RT is as useful as herpes. No POP mail. But we have a workaround - Hotmail.

Please, MS, that's bull!

Not to go off topic but POP -> GMail works very well AND your pops (see what I did there) would have an online backup of all his mail.

Got to agree. There is nothing that attracts me to the RT tablet. They need to slash to prices by more than 50% before I even start to consider getting one.

Agreed (I do it in my own right) - but why should he have to. If he wants a dedicated mail client, why can't he have one? Because RT said no.

Stubborn old fecker! Still won't get the gmail option (despite my best efforts).

Fudzy where you get your ideas I will never know.

MS's approach is stupid though, we haven't seen the thing at all here, and it is stupidly priced. NOT the way to do it.

And yes, the quicker RT disappears, the better.

I hope Nokia's approach makes MS see the light.

Lets hope the rumor that Nokia tablets will have lossless zoom and will be running pure Win8 is true. And I hope they'll also have MS Office pre-installed like the Samsung Ativ tab 3. I can imagine Nokia releasing tabs with 41MP, 35MP, 21MP and 15MP cameras, in a mix of with and without lossless zoom, low light tech, OIS and supersensitive touch (and maybe airtouch too).

I have a feeling that Nokia's tablets will be coming out or will at least be announced this southern summer (i.e. pre-festive season), to target Christmas or the Chinese New Year once again.

41MP camera on a tablet? With stupidity like that Nokia is doomed to fail, nobody uses their tablets as cameras and the few that do look like morons. It's like having a DSLR camera on a laptop.
