Microsoft's Windows Phone team reignited its #droidrage Twitter stunt this week, a campaign that offers free Windows Phones to Android malware victims. After originally creating it almost a year ago, Microsoft has remained relatively quiet in its anti-Android quest. Earlier this week, the official Windows Phone Twitter account kicked off #droidrage again in a series of Tweets including "wait for your Android phone to get infected with malware" and "buy a Windows Phone and connect with people you care about instead of some hacker plotting in a dank basement."

The account has been sharing stories from other Twitter users who appear to have encountered Android malware. Google removed 27 malware-infected apps from its Play Store last year, a move that prompted Microsoft to start its campaign, but despite an upward trend in Android malware, there's no evidence to suggest it's as bad as Microsoft makes out. Google is also making changes to Android 4.2 to include a malware scanner that analyzes "sideloaded" apps for malware threats. With no recent high profile Android malware stories, Microsoft kicked off #droidrage again, seemingly out of the blue, and it has backfired.

Twitter users have created a #windowsrage hash tag that is full of users upset by Microsoft's latest marketing misstep. The company's fascination with being anti-Google reached its peak recently after the Bing division launched its "scroogled" campaign to directly attack Google's "unfair pay-to-rank shopping practices." It's the latest in a host of anti-Google attacks from Microsoft ranging from the Gmail man to newspaper ads bashing Google's privacy changes. It's clear from the #droidrage effort that end users don't always take to these in your face marketing campaigns. Perhaps the Windows Phone team will now focus on the challenges it has with its own product before trying to take down the most widely used mobile operating system.

Yeah, lol. I have not had one single piece of malware on my Android phone :confused:
 
Shame. Microsoft have kids running the show these days it seems. This after that other "who can show the weather for two cities fastest" flop. Google is clearly seen as THE threat by Apple and MS. That is the best free advertising one can get.

All it shows me is that it doesn't matter how much people trying to prove to me that M$ have changed, that they still the same dam company they where back in the 90's

Their idea of competing is simple, buy them and kill them and if you can't, badmouth their products with lies and deceit. Good old FUD marketing.
 
I have had 2 windows phones and will never have another one , dont give a shyt how good the new windows phone operating system is.
2 duds were enough for me.
google should develop a decent operating system for PCs that will get microsofts attention.

Sometimes things go exactly as planned, other times – as Microsoft found out – things fail with a loud bang. The software giant has been on an offensive against Google lately – the Scroogled campaign and, more recently, the #DroidRage campaign.



Except most of the Twitter missiles that Microsoft though users will fire at Android as part of the campaign were smacked right into Windows Phone.

Chrome is heading that way BUT I wish they would buy Ubuntu and refine it to be an immediate competitor. If Google were to drive Ubuntu the drivers and software will follow quickly. This is what I believe Google should do.

I don't understand why PR companies still tries these stunts. They always seem to backfire.
 
Microsoft is desperate and frustrated. :eek:

Right now, Windows Phone 8 is so far beyond Android 4.2, I actually feel sad for the users and the watered down experience they are getting.

I so wish Google would make such a Linux OS available to the market with their full backing/support. It will immediately change the whole landscape. Man ... how can Google miss such an obvious opportunity and not see the power they have?
