Microsoft teases its first-ever operating system

There's rumours that it's going to link in with Stranger Things S3

People always want to say the previous version is better, so maybe reverting back to 1.0 will make these Windows 7 evangelists happy and they can stop blaming windows 10 for all their technical misgivings

But sometimes indeed older things were better. How many years did it take for Windows 10 to almost immediately show newly added printers (I had to use a hack by accessing the printer properties through Notepad to make my adjustments that needed to be done immediately) and not take 5+ minutes? Win7 and older did show it immediately. Maybe Windows 8 does now as well, it had the same issue, but who uses that?

that is a major peeve of mine - especially when I'm trying to sort out printerer issues for an user - and when ickdoze takes bloody ages to do its printerer shuffle then my BP goes up and I want to do unspeakable and horrible things to the developer and mangler who have changed printerer things....

And forbid you don't click "Yes, use this network" when setting up a new network in Win10/Server2016 - you'll get tied to a public network that you cannot change to a private network. Baaah. I don't have time for this schitte either.

Welcome to the club.

Was annoying as hell - only use Windows for a handful of apps I couldn't get running on Ubuntu - every-time I started up the VM, it would start slowing down attempting to download/install updates... and when it inevitably crashed, I'd have to wait up to an hour for updates to install after a restart.

Why not just disable ethernet for the VM then?

I finally gave up fighting Windows 10 unwanted updates - and installed Windows 7.... (this all in a virtual environment because I can't handle Windows **** anymore)

Why not just let Windows 10 stay up to date?

So what the heck is going on? Well, there's a few theories, but the most likely seems to be that Microsoft is one of a number of companies that have signed a deal with Netflix to provide guerrilla advertising for the new series of Stranger Things due for release on 4 July, don't you know, and (drum-roll) is set in 1985, just like the adverts.

We already know that there's a specific sub-plot in the new series surrounding ‘New Coke', the disastrous reformulation of the world's favourite tooth-rotting liquid. It includes a very limited edition rollout of the drink in the States. Other brands playing the game include Burger King's ‘Upside Down Whopper' and Hasbro's retro-packaged Dungeons and Dragons' sets.

It seems likely, therefore, that Microsoft has taken the Netflix dollar too and done something really cool with it. Whether it becomes a plot point in the story too, remains to be seen, but we have a hunch that the gang get their first PC access in Season 3.

Reviews of the new series have been incredibly positive, and the links back to the big commercial icons of the time (for good and bad) just add to the atmosphere of Reaganomics/Thatcherism that permeated the times.

Of course, this could be utterly wrong - maybe Windows really is going back to basics. But somehow, we doubt it.

iirc, dos was just bought by gates, never developed by them
It was still their first. Otherwise we could also argue that Windows was stolen from Xerox.

Also all versions of Windows before '95 had to be loaded from MS-DOS. Windows was basically just a GUI for DOS...

So has it been confirmed on Stranger Things yet? I'm 3 episodes in and there's nothing so far...
