Microsoft to launch Windows 9 soon: report

LOL...it was Microsoft!

Windows 7 Pro was going for $299 at their online store.
Tip: Avoid vendor webstores unless there is no other option, or they're running a special.

Vendors that sell mainly through the channel on the whole have their direct web store price as a ceiling, ie max price. This provides cover for their channel to 'undercut' them, reducing channel contention and helping channel loyalty.

Virtual desktops were originally part of the plan for Win95, and several internal builds included it. However, testing with various user types showed it was just too confusing for most people, and corporate tech types said it would lead to their help desks being flooded with calls, so it was removed.

Same with Win2K, where the Win95 GUI came to NT.

Some VD code has been in Windows since XP, but the APIs not exposed because of resistance in various user circles. I've heard that in certain dev teams inside MSFT a little utility is used to enable VDs.

In fact Virtual desktops is how Windows 95 started to deal with minimizing applications. If you minimized a app on windows 95 it just moved it to 3000x3000). (A virtual desktop)

Oh and (Windows 8.1 + Classic Shell) on SSD is pure heaven. Can not wait to see what 9 brings.

Indeed.

Once you give win8 a chance, win7 feels oddly old. I don't use metro apps at all. It's all Desktop.

Same here, and I have Windows 7 at work, and I struggle with it... just seems clunky.
