Microsoft to replace scratched discs

Nice. When they going to get round to replacing the drive that scratches the discs?

Microsoft should have asked a consumer appliance company like LG or Samsung to help design the thing for them.

The overheating and the loud whining 747 fans and flaky disc loading mechanism just shows they have no experience in the area unlike Sony.

lol attack of the Sony fanboys :)

Fudzy: They are now using BenQ drives which seem to be much better and quieter (http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=584312)

Stoke: Good for you  I still have 5 Xbox 360 discs without a scratch on them :D

Tibby: The original DVD drive was a Samsung. There goes your theory :D

On a side note my new Xbox 360 is exceptionally quite. I must see if it's a new BenQ drive when I get home....

How do you ensure that your Xbox has one of these new drives before you buy the console?

That is the problem, you can't... the only way to tell what drive is in the box is by checking the DVD tray itself....

let me find that link again...

I guess you could make the retailer open the box and plug it in to test it before you buy... make sure you get the BenQ :D

My old Xbox had the Samsun drive which was louder but I never had any problems with it at all.....

At first my bro and I thought the xbox360 scratched the disc as it looked like little scratches on it and GOW wouldn't work anymore. My brother washed the disc with water and the "scratches" were gone. It's probably the drive's grease that gets onto the disc. Dunno if this is the case for everybody though :)

For disc scratches I use some a soft steelwool pot scourer and Handy Andy ;).
