Microsoft Unveils Windows 8 New Logo

M$ actually paid a top design company for this new logo. The general reaction has been "looks like something a child did in Paint"
I really don't get why they've gone this route with Metro. They didn't need to, it looks fugly to say the least (and yes I've actually read about Metro on MSDN)

I've seen similar design coming from Google as well on their sites (although Google isn't as bad as this)
It's as if they both decided overnight that drop shadows and gradients and that general look of a UI element having depth is a bad thing, so lets make everything look flat :wtf:

It's a trick, to get win8 publicity.
They will have a real logo before launch.
