Has anyone else experienced problems with networking after installing microsoft updates? I had to format to fix this problem, i'm not 100% on which update it is thats messing my system up, but it causes the ip assigned by my billion 5102 router to my xp system to *** over and completely stuffs my networking side. Busy trying to find a fix for this, if anyone has found or experienced, share with us, specially if you managed to fix it...

Peace, JM

Must be NIC driver update of some sort. Happened to me too but just reverted to older driver and all was fine...

hmmm Perhaps, i'll have a look and see if it updated any of my nic drivers, but i don't think so, cause the last time it really stuffed over, i couldn't even connect via 56k and pinging went straight down the gutter. It wouldn't reference ip's at all or couldn't find them. Thats why i formatted, i thought it was a virus or worm...

it could be an update to your drivers, jus go to ur device manager, and im assuming it could be the update made to your network card hardware, so look for that in the device manager, and rollback the driver.
another thing I have came across on a friends pc which messed up the whole networking and adsl connection and changed the ip address totally, was a file called newdot, or new.net, so just do a search on newdot and new.net, maybe that could be the prob! but im assuming that you have to rollback a driver!

Well it seems mine came up with a variation on the network protocol bug that was present in service pack 2. Downloaded the fix and it's working fine again... Strange how it appeared so long after updating the previous time though... but
oh well.
Thanks for the suggestion Antowan, luckily no need to change my drivers around...

Yah Sp2 had that buggy thing that gives you uhm what is it.. anyways something about it not picking up your ip address from router via dhcp and even with static defined ip's your dns out side the local net won't work. Can't remember more.. KB884something ok thats not helpful. Anyways it hasn't ever affected me.. then again i only used network card after sp2 was installed.
