Does anyone know of an alternative to download Microsoft ISO files. We have a VLSC account with the appropriate licenses, but because of our extremely choppy internet the download keeps boming out. The 'official' download manager, powered by Akamai, gives up after a while and throws out a fatal error message...

I'm looking for a torrent file or similar which will cope even if the net drops out, or is unstable.

Might I ask what Microsoft iso files? Would make it easier.
Edit: had the same issue as you downloading office 2013, ended up getting a friend to download it on fibre. Microsoft servers act strangely.

Sadly am in Cape Town or else I would download it for you. I would not download a server via torrent, you don't know what the original guy did with it. Best is to ask someone close to you to download it or if you have a friend with a fibre line in Europe, ask him to upload it to you via torrent.

Thanks though - I'm nervous to get the file from an unknown source and our internet is horrific.

...our internet is horrific.

Um. Get better Internet. What's your excuse, now that there are some really good fibre broadband services here? MS distributes via content delivery networks with servers in SA, so there is no reason to use anything international.

I know a place where you can get a VL copy of the isos.... they have some additional scripts on them though...

You can disable them for an install that is 100% like the original. PM if interested with what you want.

I am pretty sure that there is only the server in the us, called them at the beginning of the year and they confirmed it. Windows update could be cached locally.

I also had issues with downloading using their crappy download manager.

There is a workaround.

Log on their site as normally, and follow the links etc for the download (as normal).

At the last point, before you click on the link to start the download, click on "try alternative method" or something like that, and go through the whole process again, but this time you'll be able to select which download manager you want to use.

Thanks for that... If you have any ideas on 'Getting Better Internet' in rural KZN where we only got ADSL a year ago and 3G is available if lucky, please feel free to throw suggestions. I'll take any help I can get...

I've seen the web download, which then allows me to download using firefox, or I can revert the link to my download manager. Problem is that it seems like the authentication times out and the download stops early on.

Sigh, wish I was in the city - with stable internet. It used to be easy when Microsoft sent the disks periodically... Now it makes life just a tad bit more challenging

PM Toxicbunny? I'm sure he'll be able to assist (if possible).

If I were in your shoes, I would take that link and dump it in eg. www.justseed.it - they download it for you to their servers and then you can load up your download manager/utorrent and download it from their servers at your own pace. It is quite cheap, but if you do not want to spend $$$ on an unsure thing, you are welcome to PM me the link and I'll test it for you with my account? I can then convert it to a torrent for you and just pop you the torrent file.

Call Microsoft South Africa and ask them to assist. They may be able to arrange to get a disc to you.

Maybe download somewhere else on better internet?
I download from the VLSC at least once a week as it beats driving to the DC and I have had no issues ever. ADSL at home even manages to pull at my line speed with no issues.

If you still havened managed to get what you want PM me, I am sure I can help you out?
