Microsoft Windows Server... when do you need CAL's?

It's all in the topic basically... If you have a domain, do you need a CAL for each user? If you have Exchange, do you need a CAL for each user?
 
CAL per user far as I know (comes with 5).

For some reason SBS2008 does not ask you to enter cal details.
 
Yes, CAL for each device or User on the network that will access the server and another cal per user or device for Exchange, usually per user CAL is best, if the user have more than one device the User CAL with be for all his devices...

Yes, servers come with 5, but you can set it up per user or device level.
So if you have 4Pc's, and 8 users, and they say share Desktops (ie not always need to be logged on them, or staff shifts), then you would use a per Device setting, that way you would not need to purchase any other licenses, but if you have say 3 users, and 2 of them have a desktop and laptop, then you can go via the per users level, so you again, wont need more licenses


Are you sure you over you CAL limit (should be shown on the SBS user management screen)?
