Middle East Airspace

I assume you went with Emirates to avoid the Dbn-Jhb leg? What sort of cancellation fee are you due, hopefully not the full fare.

Exactly that it is the reason and mostly due to when I last flew the Durban -jhb route I was stuck for 3 hours due to a plane malfunction on safair so was easier to just go emirates and the price was right then came the war

Seems things are somehow moving. Had a parcel stuck in dubai. Arrived there on the day they bombed iran. Was not moving until yesterday and delivered now

Hi All

Looking for some advice here, I am flying to Japan using Emirates next month towards the middle of the month.

With the current issues in the UAE, would it be advisable to cancel or plan to do so in April. Budget wise my only option is Ethiopian and Cathay

Anyone flew with them before?
I'd switch my flights if I were you. I'd never risk missing a Japan trip, not even for a war. I've flown Cathay many times to Japan. JHB>Hong Kong>Japan.

I really am considering this, the cancellation fee is quite steep since I booked Flex tier flights, think $150 x 2

I wouldn't choose Ethiopian if you paid me. Besides putting a plane into the ground at mach 1, have you ever been to Addis airport? I'll just leave it at that    🤮

Just choose Cathay, they're brilliant, have always been number 1. Not sure if any Japanese carriers fly direct, obviously that would be a first bet but I don't think they do.

Otherwise Singapore is excellent.

I'm sure your Emirates flight will be fine by then, but if you are worried and a ticket change doesn't cost you anything then I'd change it to Cathay or Singapore.
JAL unfortunately transits via Doha and Singapore has avaiabilty but I would have to cut my trip a day short, I can only hope Emirates allows me to refund like they are allowing fee free refunds through March

He's done but UAE and other gulf states still getting missiles in their airspace

Maybe I have to suck the hefty refund fee or wait it out till Emirates gives a grace period.

As much as I like the comfort of Emirates, it seems they will be a pass for me this time
