Is it just me or is Sentech dying at around midnight every other night?

Okay, last night there was obviously a major problem, at least on my tower. The connection died at exactly midnight and from then on I got an invalid username/password message trying to reconnect.

But this is not the first time this has happened at exactly 00:00. I frequently work late so this nightly midnight curfew has started to become quite obvious - sometimes it's just international that goes down for 15 mins, sometimes everything's uncontactable except for the sentech domain, and sometimes, like last night, there's a complete outage, even of the authentication system.

If I had to log this, it would be quite noticeable that it occurs at almost exactly 12am (most commonly), 1am and sometimes 2am. I suspect they're doing some kind of nightly maintenance, but it has become frustrating and I find myself trying to get everything important done before these times otherwise I end up having to wait 30-60mins before it comes right. Their maintenance notification bulletin board seldom mentions these outages as being planned.

This is very unreliable behaviour for a network, especially if you want to leave a download task or other service running overnight.

With a young network, maintenance, modifications and upgrades are the call of the day.
Obviously you were not around when Telkom first got ADSL going and that was an old technology :)
Different area's have different down times and its impossible to please everyone at the same time.
Here in Durban I find the best time to pull a tower down is between 16:30 and 18:30 as most people are in the traffic during that time and not connected.
I used to do my upgrades in the early hours, around 2 am, but just had too many complaints.
This way, so far everything is working great ;)
