Anyone else here living in Meyerton and getting the wierdest utility bills?
Last December they surprised us with a outstanding amount of R28 000. Then after we requested a recalculation, came back with a apology and a full reversal for that amount. Only to contact us the next day and apologize and reinstate that amount. So we arranged a monthly payout with them and installed a prepaid meter - no more of this stupid stuff.
Yesterday a sherrif of the court pitched up with a court order for a further outstanding amount of R16 000!
We've now requested a audited recalculation from the time we bought the house.

So much for a DA led council being more efficient.
 
This is getting even wierder. The amount we've been paying in might be showing as a credit and may not have been deducted from the outstanding amount. Hence the handing over to the lawyers.

What is going on in that place?
 
All I can say is good luck. I have been struggling for over 4 years now to get my rates onto my bill. Now only did the realise what their mistake was and cut off my electricity because they issued me with a R40k bill which I didn't know about because as I was on leave and didn't pay that amount in 14 days. Luckily I had that set amount put aside because I knew it was coming sooner or later and I gained some interest on it as well.

Little did they know I knew where to switch my electricity back on and paid that amount the same day.

I don't understand this either...
If you know you can't owe 28k why pay it? And then install a prepaid meter?

What do they claim is behind utilities or taxes?
 
There was an outstanding bill of R14K for water and lights on a place I rented a good while back. Since it was outstanding when we moved in, it wasn't our problem, but it became our problem when the municipality suddenly upped our monthly bill by R1K. There was nothing we could do.
 
This is precisely why I am implementing my own independent monitoring on all utilities.

I know how much electricity I am using, and I will shortly know how much water I am using.... and my systems will be a lot more accurate than the decades all analog systems they use.

Accurately reconciling reading should be nothing to do with what the anc left. Why doesn't CT have the same issues, they took over from the anc there too.
 
Not excusing Midvaal, but its unfortunately par for the course with any "large" organisation... mistakes will be made, but its always how they are fixed that is important. Looks as if the DA still have issues with how to provide service to their clients in Midvaal.

As apposed to your rose coloured glasses? I'm under no illusion that cANCer really is a destructive terrorist organisation that will do anything whatsoever to hold onto power to satiate the greed of the elite few.

This right here nullifies anything you say about this billing issue. You have issues that obviously prevent you from seeing clearly. Head issues.
 
Had the same problem. What midvaal is doing is when you are arrears, they stop the account and create a new account number. I had 4 different account numbers on 1 property. Even while I had a years credit on my one account after paying double for several months, they do not take any debt of on the other accounts. Only found this out when the sheriff arrived. Think it is partly due to the corrupt lawyer that is working there as a DA member. He channel al the actions to his business and then buy the properties himself if it goes to court.

Those guys are something else. I can't put my finger on it, but I met Timothy Nast once, instinctively didn't trust the man.
We queried it with the council and the lawyers, they are still to get back to us.

shocked by this news. Why is DA allowing this to happen?
 
I actually think he lost the contract ages ago when the whole story came to light.
Turns out that Midvaal had nepotims and bid-rigging. But here's the scary bit. The winning bidders did a good job.

Still. A while ago Midvaal had people submit tenders for RDP housing.
The winning company built a demo house smaller than my study, then disappeared with the money after winning the bid.
