I have no idea if this is possible, but can the Afrihost Mifi SIM card be used in a Galaxy Tab 2 purely for the data part?

Yes. Why not? I have a Tab 2 (both versions, WiFi only and 3G + WiFi). And use Afrihost Mobile sim there. Plus can hotspot the connection to other devices.

MTN network is there, but no data network at all.
I must add, the Tab 2 is rooted and running Slim Bean 4.3, "Mobile Data" is activated, etc.
Everything works 100% over Wifi, but nothing with the SIM. Pop SIM back into Mifi device and it shows full 3G signal and can connect and browse through Wifi, no problem.

Did you change the APN on the profile used on the Tab?

Yup.
I just rebooted the Tab and it works 100% now. Pity there is no MTN 3G in our area, so will have to make do with the "normal" stuff.

I also supposedly do not have 3G in my area.... so i try to force it on my tab:
1) dial *#*#4636#*#* (this might only work on Android Tablets)
2) Select Preferred Network Type "WCDMA Only"
my tab switched over to 3G mode and i have 87ms ping and speeds of more or less 3mbits / second
