Vodacom did have a share listing exercise, but it was on the open market, and did not unduly advantage those who could pre-buy shares at 30% discount. It also did not (as far as we can see) use blatant insider trading info, ie. the SNO debacle, and the continuing govenrment/ICASA sponsored monopoly, to buy huge chunks of shares.

In the offices of the "haves", the assurances from the regulator is that "the SNO will not be reality until at least 2010". So they hold on to their shares, until the right day to sell. What we MUST have, are the names of those individual "haves".

Have a look at http://www.info.gov.za/speeches/2005/05022408451001.htm for where some of the money goes. 50000 people out of 40m (one eighth of one per cent 0.125%) is not real empowerment, so the motive lies elsewhere. Bigger money, however goes to the select few, whose share portfolios are kept at an unnatural high by the regulator.
