I've been suffering from migraines for as long as I can remember. I'm 27 and in generally good shape (generally being relative to your typical IT guy who's idea of exercise is taking a stroll down the beach on a calm day). I have a healthy diet and from blood tests, I know that I am good health, apart from the aforementioned migraines.

They usually occur during the summer months and are systemic. They last anything from 1-3 days and during that time I suffer from no appetite, blurred vision, acute pain behind my right eye and extreme light sensitivity. I have been to a doctor and he sends me away each and every time with the same excuse that it's sinus related. I do not have hay-fever and the medication he prescribes treat the pain, but have not stopped them from happening. I have asked him how I would go about stopping them, but his answers have been vague.

I am due to see another doctor at 12 and I hope that he can schedule a CT scan so that I can finally get to the root of the problem. I will also be asking him to check my thyroid since it can cause some of the symptoms I am experiencing.

Now to the point of the thread, does anybody else here suffer from migraines and headaches, and if so, what do you do to relieve the pain or pressure?

Pethedine. It’s all that work. No cocktail no nothing has ever worked. I have tried the wafers the sprays you name it. Hospital and an injection that makes the vomiting stop and puts me to sleep.

I've been suffering from migraines most of my life, and nothing worked for me. I also tried the cocktails, but to no avail (although, lately I've found one that knocks me on my ass which works really well). Though most of the time I just ride it out.

I suggest go to your GP and have him check it out, and have him refer you to a specialist. It could be the result of a more serious problem.

Jaaa i get them i am in my fifty s had them my whole life disturbed vision and some times numbness on my tongue or one of my arms it got so bad one day i could not talk (only once this happened ) i been to see many doctors all have their theory's but nothing helps i saw a professor once he didn't help either . I just take a disprin now and find if i relax the next day i am ok . but it does get slightly better as you get older the symptoms are not so severe . now i just get disturbed vision for about half an hour and a slight head ache . when i was young the symptoms were severe wanting to vomit and severe head ache fore a day or two .
If you find a relief let us know please

I take syndol - 3 or 4 of them - and try to sleep it off. Nothing really helps. At one stage I took 3 synap forte and was still in pain.

Fortunately my trigger is blood-sugar related so if I eat properly I don't get them. You'd think that would force me to eat properly.... :(

It's a pity it's not sinus, I found the cure for my crippling headaches was as simple as not smoking and pouring a cup of salty water into one nostril and out the other.

I hope you find a resolution.

My mom has had migrains for about 12years since a boating accident that crushed every bone in her face. only thing that works is 'maxalt'.Shes tried EVERYTHING (almost).she also found that her migrains are brought on by certain types of food like citrus and red wine.her migraines lasted anything from 3-7 days.same symptoms as op.IIRC maxalt works directly on the pain receptors in the brain or something like that.she only takes one and it works.its also not like other medicine that she tried where your body slowly builds up a resistance against it over time.

to add to my other post.she saw a specialist aswell.she eventually found that her migrains are also brought on by high blood pressure (got a little blood pressure meter).if she relaxes shes fine most of the time, but if stress becomes too much she gets a migraine.

Been suffering for years, been there done that. The last investigative medical "research" in my problem only welcomed me to the club and gave me a few pages of food to avoid. That went to the bin. The pre trigger to a migraine may be anything. The trick is to id the pre symptoms leading to the atatck in time and drink medicine before the attack actually starts.
For me the quickest relief is to go to my Pharmacist for an injection (Voltaren). It normally keeps another attack away for a while. The cocktails hardly ever worked for me but I recently stumbled on this that worked so well that I did not need to go for an injection in quiet a while.

Migraine cocktail
One of each
Migril
Menograine
Ibunate 200
Norflex co
Vit B co

Good luck

I have the same problem also above the right eye. In my case I'm 99% sure it's sinus, I find if lie on my left side it eases the pain after a while.

No harm in trying a neti pot to flush out your sinus. I've been looking for one for ages

@Sinbad: Should have followed the instructions :erm:

I'm 27 & used to get severe headaches now and again. Then I started noticing my vision was getting bad. I was very sensitive to light, (to the point where i couldn't look at a pc screen for longer than 10 mins) and my periperhal vision was almost gone if i only looked through one eye at a time.
Went to see an opthalmologist and he said I probably have a tumor below my brain, which is pushing up on my optic nerve. Turns out after an MRI scan that he was right. Now its being treated with medication to try shrink it, and I go for MRI's every 6 months.

I'm not saying you have something similar, but I'd highly suggest going for a scan. It can save you lots of trouble trying to get to the bottom of the problem.

My wife had severe migraines for about 5 years every 2-3 months where she had to go into hospital to get a Lumbar Puncture to reduce the pressure on her brain, she had 6 LP's in 2009. She was diagnosed with inter-cranial hypertension a.k.a pseudotumor cerebri. They eventually inserted a Lumbar peritoneal shunt to regulate the cranial fluid pressure in her brain and since then she's been fine, only minor headaches now and then.

Agreed - but some people get lazy and take shortcuts eventually.
