Hi,

Anyone know of an easy way to migrate all my data(files, settings, etc.) from my old PC onto my new PC?? Don't want to have to reinstall all the apps again.

thanx

Windows XP files and settings Transfer Wizard?

But seriously... to avoid future possible problems... better to just re-install everything.

tried windows xp transfer wizard .... and not everything was copied across .... most icons and even the settings did not get copied ... so not really much use :(

don't want to have to reinstall everything ..as that is a mission and then some ... but will have to ... as there does not seem to be a better option ....

why don't u just put your old pc HDD into your new pc?

Doesn't always work... especially if the chipset is different. Usually fails to boot... but you could unload all drivers from the old PC and then try...

Similarly to the Ghost route suggested, I frequently take an Acronis True Image snapshot of my main computer and Restore it on a second computer. Then takes half an hour of tweaking to restore the drivers the new machine needs which differ from the original one, and away you go, easy peasy! The only fly in the digital ointment might be if Windows decides you have made too many hardware changes and wants Windows to be reactivated, ouch. No probs if you have a Corporate copy though, which doesn't need activation.....

Acronis True Image is a great tool.
And if you want to migrate your PC (or server) to new hardware, the most elegant way is to use Acronis True Image with Universal Restore (an add-on option that installs into True Image). Both are paid-for commercial enterprise-class tools.
Acronis Universal Restore slipstreams in the HAL-level drivers for your new hardware during the image restore process, thereby ensuring your migrated system will boot on the new hardware.
